All the great minds at Google are leaving 🫡

From all my chats at KotlinConf yesterday, the line that hit me the most was: "People don't have to keep calling it Kotlin Multiplatform. It's just Kotlin." My impression is KMP (not AI) is the real star of the show. Several talks independently said multiplatform improved their productivity.

This week's developers conferences ranked from worst to best: 3- Microsoft Build: a big dumpster fire featuring trendy tech fascists 2- Google A/I/O: dodge the bullshit talks to study the new Compose Nav3 library 1- KotlinConf: good non-US vibes, multiplatform and Kotlin 2.2 FTW

Today, we've released a brand new Jetpack library - Navigation3! A pure Compose, state based navigation library: android-developers.googleblog.com/2025/05/anno...

May I suggest renaming "Material 3 Expressive" to "Material 3 Bullshit" given the amount of buzzwords and made-up numbers in the official blog posts

Since there's still no official way to play an animated vector drawable in a loop in Compose, I created a quick hack to do exactly that: gist.github.com/cbeyls/7845b... Warning: it's using internal APIs of androidx.compose.animation:animation-graphics and could break in the future. #AndroidDev

Mistake of the week: upgrading to binary-incompatible Compose 1.8 while an external SDK used by the app still depends on Compose 1.7 #AndroidDev

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching. Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

I have two open positions in my team to work on open source software tools used to track nutrition programs and health campaigns. We are using Django, Postgres, React and AWS, but we are open to good profiles knowing different, but similar, tools. Remote OK www.bluesquarehub.com/blog/vacanci...

You may have missed it, but the @graalvm.org team has recently open-sourced a variant of native image called web image, which compiles Java bytecode to WebAssembly bytecode instead of a native executable.

“is my calculator horny?“ our tech columnist asks. “i entered 5318008 into it and turned it upside down. what i saw surprised me”

"The Two Popes" was one of my favourite movies of 2019. Now is a good time to watch it if you haven't already.

I was very lucky to watch this trailer last week at #BIFFF before its official release, in the presence of the director.

It turns out we did not miss much when an interview with that man at #FOSDEM was canceled

Excited about this evening's program at #BIFFF2025 ! Danny Boyle gets knighted, Lorcan Finnegan introduces his Nic Cage movie and Christophe Lambert pays us a visit. www.bifff.net

Happy #AMxDC25 to everyone ! I'm not joining you this year but I made the conference app a bit better (and half the size on Android).

Framework Laptop 12 pre-orders are now open, with first shipments in June! DIY Edition starts at €569/£499/CA$719. Full specs are up on our website.

The line-up of guests and jury members of #BIFFF2025 is now complete! Featuring: - Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting) - Christophe Gans (Silent Hill) - Paco Plaza ([REC]) - Christophe Lambert (Highlander) - Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia (The Platform) www.bifff.net

The Nintendo Switch 2 is to the Nintendo Switch OLED what the PS5 is to the PS4 Slim, and it's not a compliment. 2x bigger, 50% heavier and with worse battery life: the opposite of what you want for a portable video game console. #Nintendont

The Bluesky Android app is logging me out once a day now. What the hell is happening?

The number of working satellites has soared in the past five years to around 11,000, mostly because of constellations of orbiters that provide Internet connectivity around the globe, but it comes with a series of problems. Nature explores the issues and how scientists are reacting. 🔭 🧪

Maybe what makes software dev so vulnerable to "AI" is that the industry's left the reliability goal wide open. Defect rates few other markets would stand for are already tolerated. If software had to work in the same way microwave ovens have to work, nobody would let an LLM near production code.

🚀 Big news for Android devs using Jetpack Compose! Media3 just dropped version 1.6.0, and it includes a brand new artifact: media3-ui-compose! Finally, seamless and customizable video playback directly in your Compose apps. 🎬 #AndroidDev #JetpackCompose #Media3

It is so funny that even when posting what should be a triumphant moment about a launch of some new image generator Sam Altman can't even post an image where the guy has the correct number of fingers

I worked extra time this week-end so you can check the program of #BIFFF2025 from your Android phone. This year's version of "BIFFF Movie Guide" features predictive back animations, edge-to-edge display, a new font for movie titles and tweaked menus and buttons. play.google.com/store/apps/d...
