This is always one of my favourite #ALevelMaths lessons - introducing infinite geometric series. Y12 surprised me this year by generally preferring a geometric approach over algebraic tricks - usually it’s the other way round! #MathsToday

in #mathstoday w/ my lpa yr 9 have been developing this structure in lessons for transfer between forms, kind of a live @studymaths.bsky.social completion table done on whiteboards I put the blank grid up and vary which box i fill in and they do the rest

mistakes we(?) make: we teach it as nth term (& worse, exam qs ask for nth term) and not as a "position-to-term rule" this is an early example of a Q with a restricted domain and we miss a trick not talking about this w/ Ss who will go on to study #alevelmaths

#alevelmaths Order of teaching: thinking of teaching all the pure first. No applied until 2nd year. I think this will support prior low attainers (grade 6), they will have longer to consider/practice/apply the big concepts. Anyone have any experience of this?
