Savouring this wonderful book reminds me how amazing science and nature can be. Dawkins' 'The Greatest Show on Earth' had me hypnotised as a teen and this look at the reverse engineering of genes to examine animal pasts is fascinating! @headofzeus.bsky.social Full review soon

I'm thrilled to be part of the blog tour (with my stop on release day!) for Downlands by the very talented @normkonyu.bsky.social - this is my first Graphic Novel blog tour. You can preorder the book now and check out more info on the post. Catch my review on Tuesday 🖤

Reading plan 👀

First bottle of rum I've bought in over a year I reckon. Great reviews and LOVE this design - fits a sort of occult noir, mystic macabre sort of vibe that makes me want to read a dark folklorey book. The taste totally fits the aesthetic too! New word learnt: esoteric

Well, that's my paternity leave over. Gonna try and enjoy the weekend and then it's back to working shifts again... Felt like 2 minutes. 😑

Controversial opinion: Richard I (The Lionheart) was one of the worst monarchs England ever had.

Needed to take the lawnmower to the tip as it had a few issues. Awkward job. Decided to leave it at the front of the house instead. Woke up this morning and it had gone 😂 Cheers for the free removals 👌

Anybody read this as a kid? It's back in print! This series gave me childhood nightmares and started off an interest in spooky, macabre stuff.

I'm in that weird, frustrating zone where I'm spoilt for choice what to read next and feel like I should read an ARC as I'm behind but also because I feel obligated, it stops me getting into the frame of mind. But then I don't read something else cos I feel guilty. So I read nothing! 😱

Caught up with The Assembly on ITV and have to say, David Tennant comes across so well; such a warm, genuinely nice bloke. Can't fault how Danny Dyer interacted with the group either from what I've seen tbh. Lacking the refinement of Tennant of course.

👑 New Review 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚔️ I'm also trialling a new review format on my blog for the first time 👀 It's Henry V by Dan Jones. Jones is at his peak and this is essential reading for anyone interested in medieval history. Review below: spellsandspaceships.home.blog/2025/05/01/h...

Anyone here read The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman?

Exciting bookmail today courtesy of Julia at @titancomics.bsky.social (thankyou!) This is the new @normkonyu.bsky.social book Downlands and I'll be on the blog tour! You can check out my review of Norm's last book The Junction here: spellsandspaceships.home.blog/2022/04/25/t...

I finished Hall of Bones by Tim Hardie! Read my review below: spellsandspaceships.home.blog/2025/04/29/h...

After 6 months sober, I did go back to drinking again. But that 6 month reset transformed my relationship with alcohol in such a positive way & I'm much more comfortable not drinking now. If you're trying to cut back, Rekorderlig alcohol free is fantastic on a warm day.

My first sci-fi review since 2022! Disgraced Return of the Kap's Needle by @renanbernardo.com "Few stories capture such a raw sense of human fragility against the vast emptiness of space" Check out my houghts on this atmospheric novella below: spellsandspaceships.home.blog/2025/04/28/d...

I really like this book title. Which had me thinking; can you name me any book titles you really feel stand out from the crowd?

The first reviews of the Kap's Needle are coming up!!!! 🤩

I keep getting spam emails from people thinking that I'm @kaitlinfelix.bsky.social Bizarre! She's a lot cooler than I am for a start

I'm ashamed at how judgemental and superficial I am when it comes to book covers. It really does play a big role in whether I look at buying/reading.

Current read - love the title and cover. 25% in and I'm glad I've returned to sci-fi after so long, this is a really interesting story so far.

I'm actually glad the number of books that appeal to me has massively decreased this year and last. It gives me hope I'll eventually get my TBR under control 😅🤞
