The Circumpolar Arctic Vegetation Science Initiative Workshop team! Three days of incredible discussions & panels, collaborative ideation, & knowledge sharing. Ive met so many new colleagues, formed new networks, & contextualized the work we are doing in Greenland into the broader Arctic context.

Some beautiful 🌿 specimens collected by our colleagues in Zackenberg, northeastern Greenland 🇬🇱 while we were collecting at the same time in the southwest part of the island. Fieldwork, especially in remote settings, provides wonderful opportunities for collaboration and data collection synergies!

Today I prepared some plant samples for DNA 🧬 barcoding. These ones are particularly special, they were collected in Northwestern Greenland 🇬🇱 (76.9°N!) near the Red Rock Ice Cliff of the Nunatarssuaq Ice Cap. Even in these harsh conditions, our amazing collaborators were still able to sample for us!

The Tule Tree, located just outside of Oaxaca, Mexico, is the stoutest tree in the world and among the widest. The species is a Montezuma cypress (Taxodium mucronatum Ten.), and it takes over 45 people holding hands to surround the trunk. Estimated to be around 1500 to 2000 years old!
