Using Elaboration Likelihood Model of Persuasion to explain why Booker's speech worked.

We sold the van that carried us all around the country and into hundreds of conversations. What now?

My latest.

My latest in @goodfaithmedia.bsky.social This is directed at myself as much as anything. It's hard to not be consumed by hate these days.

Over the last 20-30 years, most universities shifted their values from educating students in the liberal arts tradition to satisfying customers. It's going to be hard on them, now that fascism is at the gate. Any school that accommodates this tyranny should never receive tuition again.

I would think standup comedy is particularly hard these days. If i were me, I'd finish my set with, "Thank you. I'm here ... all, weak."

Cowards. Every one.

As of 6am (CST), this is the location of "Kremlin Headquarters " on Google Maps.

Brace yourselves, we now have an intelligence community and military command structure in place to carry out unconstitutional, treasonous, and immoral orders.

Billionaryans?

I confess, I’m dumbfounded when readers demand “solutions” after I describe the fire consuming democracy. My task is to make you see the flames. You cannot douse what you refuse to see. First, we must wake the sleepwalkers—then we can talk about rebuilding.

Marco Rubio's collaboration with Russia's Sergei Lavrov and Putin is one of the most disgusting acts of betrayal to democracy and our nation. Rubio has secured his place in history of infamy.

SNL50 Top 5: 5. Adam Sandler song (laughs and tears) 4. Eddie Murphy on Black Jeopardy 3. Bobby Moynihan as Drunk Uncle 2. Will Ferrell as Big Red in Scared Straight 1. Kate McKinnon and Meryl Streep in Close Encounter (poke bowl and smoky hole, vagedy and tragedy, carpets and tarpits)

I'm going to start using they/them when referring to POTUS.

"No matter what may come of this/We were built for this abyss"

There's another musician (besides Chappell Roan) from my hometown who was on a meteoric ride. Elton John said Jake Wesley Rogers reminded him of himself. But, Crohn's disease, a ruptured intestine, and multiple surgeries derailed Jake's momentum this last year. He's back. Great single out today.

Why do I keep writing about this stuff? Because I was raised to speak up, even when my voice shakes. And because they will come for me last. I don't want my first words of resistance to be uttered when there's no one left to hear them.

The newest polls show his job approval moving above 50%. It’s official – most of us are cruel or stupid. Or both.

No matter how bad you think it is, it’s worse. People I love in DC are experiencing things they can’t talk about. Careers and whole organizations are at risk. ICE is stopping Ubers and Lyfts, demanding papers from drivers and passengers. This isn’t normal, but it is familiar…if you’ve read a book.

"Blame the liberals" will be the refrain, set to repeat, until it becomes the official narrative. And there's no debate. You can't argue with a cult.

Time to give this classic another read.

If you're an alleged Christian attacking a bishop because she encouraged powerful people to be merciful, you're the reason I left religion and will never look back.

Bezos's @washingtonpost.com unveiled its new mission statement: "Post-Factual False Equivalences R Us."

This song has always been good, but these brothers have lost houses, a studio, and all the music gear they’ve ever owned. Now this song is transcendent.

Inequality is the greatest moral challenge of our time. Extreme wealth is unethical and should be taxed. If we set a sliding-scale wealth tax bracket - reaching 100% at a $100B threshold - you could still be absurdly rich, and we could begin to significantly address the problem. #FindYourPitchfork

The living U.S presidents have an average of 7 felony convictions.

When Jimmy Carter went into hospice, I quickly wrote and recorded this song to honor him. Then it sat there on streaming platforms, speaking of the man in the past tense...for two years. it felt disrespectful to mention it, until today. RIP, Jimmy.

Do you ever get that remembered-our-band-had-a-MySpace-but-the-username-password-and-email-are-all-long-gone feeling? Yeah, me neither. What am I, 80?

It's cute how Musk and the other plutocrats allow Trump to act like he's in charge.

It will be ironic if the McDonald's tipster never actually receives the reward, due to delays and denials from the agencies trying to avoid paying.

Am I the only person who listened to Chuck Mangione's music this morning, for the first time in 30+ years?

The NYPD is offering a $10,000 reward. What if someone has valuable information, but they're out-of-network?

This is the weaponizing misinformation through a fetishizing of false equivalence and bothsidesism. There's irony in pursuing fairness by embracing a relativism that ultimately rewards nihilism and power.

My wife and I are retired teachers. We pay over $13,000 a year for health insurance. After deductibles, copays, prescriptions, dental, vision, etc., we often spend nearly $20k a year on healthcare. We make too much to qualify for any real ACA help. #InsuranceIsTheft #UniversalHealthcareNow

When I started looking at skilled nursing facilities for my parents, an admissions staff member told me they were asking rehab and long-term patients with ongoing medical issues and UnitedHealthcare coverage to either switch back to Medicare or move out, because UH regularly denied all claims.

In 2018, twenty-year-old Chappell Roan was playing Christmas songs on our local news show in Springfield, MO!

Could cowardice be THE moral failing of 2024? When otherwise good people "Costanza" their way out of danger, fueled by an appetite for clout and an utter disregard for others, they (and ultimately we) become a distorted version of what could have been. Our national disfigurement is underway.
