On May 30, 2025, we closed the sale of our home in Boulder. In the three weeks prior, we had gifted or sold all our furniture. We cleaned out a horrendous amount of accumulated crap. And then we hopped on a plane to Baja Sur to lock down a place to live for the rest of the year.

Everywhere you look, people are labeling yet another country as the “next Portugal.” But what if the next Portugal for you is… Portugal?

Picture this: You're answering emails while sipping locally-grown coffee on your terrace, surrounded by mist-covered mountains and the kind of silence that lets you actually think. Just you, your laptop, and a view that stretches to both the Pacific and Caribbean on clear days.

As you enter your 50s, you no longer feel compelled to dance to society's soundtrack. You start to tune out the sound of so-called success that's been in your ears since you were young, and instead define success in terms that make sense for yourself.

People want independence from the unreasonable constraints and control of traditional employment. More and more people are claiming that independence.

People aged fifty and over already account for more than half of consumer spending in the United States and 83% of household wealth, with both numbers expected to increase significantly. And odds are you’ll be attempting to convince an older female consumer.

It's gonna take a miracle for the Nuggets to win in OKC without Aaron Gordon, but I'm happy that everyone now knows how important that guy is.

20 years ago last Friday, they wheeled me in for emergency surgery, and I said goodbye to my wife, not quite three-year-old daughter, and newborn son. I knew that sometimes people don’t wake up from brain surgery, and this might be the last time I saw them.

Skrillex at Red Rocks last night. Wait for the drop 🙂

Bench Westbrook, please.

As the first generation to rely almost exclusively on the 401(k) for our retirement savings instead of pensions of the past, we know one thing: The experiment has been a failure.

I know Dallas was super upset about Luka Doncic getting traded but Denver might actually burn itself to the ground if the Nuggets ever move Aaron Gordon

If you think Costa Rica is just for retirees, think again. Ojochal is an expat town on the Southern Pacific coast filled with active “on-the-ground” entrepreneurs mixed in with the digitally independent variety.

Just an hour from Panama City lies a place that challenges everything you might assume about Central American beach towns. Coronado, in Panama’s western province, has quietly transformed from a wealthy Panamanian weekend retreat into something far more interesting.

What happens when a country fundamentally disappoints a large number of its citizens? When a founding narrative of economic opportunity and prosperity devolves into an unattainable farce, what’s the result? Throughout human history, the answer has been the same.

When I tell you I have NEVER seen a closer call on a buzzer beater 🤯🤯🤯 #NBASky #SkyHoops

What if instead of a mere tax-deferred retirement account fueled by a stock market that may go nowhere in the next decade, you keep what you would pay in tax in your pocket? That’s what Uruguay is offering to location-independent professionals and expat business owners.

I’d been all over Costa Rica, but the Nicoya Peninsula had remained under my radar. That changed when I heeded some frequently heard advice from fellow travelers: "You’ve got to check out Nosara."

The choice for 50-somethings is clear: risk being replaced by AI in a corporate setting, or use AI to build something uniquely yours that no algorithm can replicate.

Prince died 9 years ago today. Still bummed.

Nuggets win!

You don't need to be in a tech hubs like San Francisco, Austin, or Miami to succeed with a startup. But have you considered the thriving international metropolis that offers world-class infrastructure, a strategic global position, and significantly lower costs?

For those who dream of living that beach life as a location-independent professional, Costa Rica's North Pacific Coast (aka the Gold Coast) offers up paradise without sacrificing professional momentum.

An economic downturn can be a perfect time to start a business, as long as you see what's coming and solve the right problems.

Nuggets clinch 4th seed, but if the Warriors win, we play Minnesota first round, which would suck. Go Clippers in overtime!

I am reevaluating this statement. Nuggets look like themselves again, seems Malone really was a problem.

The collection of islands that comprise Bocas del Toro, Panama, deliver surprisingly solid internet connectivity. Unlike many tropical digital nomad destinations that promise more than they deliver, Bocas actually works for professionals who need reliability.

Yes you should have a passport but voting is a bit down the list of reasons why.

Classy tribute to Luka by the Mavs, but maybe just don't make that trade in the first place?

A couple weeks ago, I highlighted the Costa Rican expat havens near San José, and I got a comment from @andrewmceo.bsky.social with this tip: Don’t sleep on San Ramón. Turns out, there’s a lot to like about this lesser-known Central Valley location that’s also popular with expats.

The Nuggets have done some highly questionable things in the last two years, but firing Malone right before the playoffs is just plain idiotic.
