St Ita. Honan Chapel @ University College Cork. Stained glass art by Harry Clarke.

A Member of the European Parliament is among those kidnapped by Israel. Yet EU still regards Israel as a law abiding State for the purposes of Art. 2 of its Association Agreement. If this was a film script, it would be rejected as too unbelievable.

The architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born #OTD 7 June 1868. The only church he designed was St Matthew Free Church, Queens Cross, Glasgow, today the Mackintosh, an arts venue and home of the Mackintosh Society. His original furnishings survive, including this pulpit.

Now there’s a surprise.

Novels to re-read every decade or so, because you see something new and more insightful in them each time as you get older. The Austen canon certainly. Middlemarch. Anna Karenina. War and Peace. Crime and Punishment. Bleak House. Other suggestions?

This is excellent from @anandMenon1 on the latest vile nonsense from Matthew Goodwin, a man whose descent in the gutter grows ever more nauseating t.co/31mdzmfwYs

After the Brexit reset, how about a Brexit review? New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog. The reset now needs to be delivered, including an SPS deal. Meanwhile, with the SDR we've had three defence reviews since Brexit, so why not a Brexit review? chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/06/afte...

By an almost 2 to 1 landslide majority, the United Kingdom decided to stay in the EEC on 5 June 1975. Northern Ireland, however, only narrowly voted in favour of remaining a member, 52.2% to 47.8% ereader.irishnews.com/2025/06/07/e...

This leaked Nov 2024 EU report provided more than enough evidence to suspend the #EU - #Israel Association Agreement. If ongoing review under @kajakallas.bsky.social is credible, it will find that Israel’s violations have only worsened since EU states must finally act. As they should've long ago.

Exhibit A in support of the observation that, since 5 July 2024, former critics of “judicial activism”, “lawfare”, and judicial review as “politics by other means” and “undemocratic” seem suddenly to have changed their tune. What can have happened on that date to produce this Damascene conversion?

My Trade Secrets today. Cheer up, the worst might yet be to come. Donald Trump's tariffs mainly damage the US. If the courts really do block them and/or they don't work and he turns to other things like manipulating the global dollar payments system, it could be far worse. First 300 clicks free.

Grim. Atracks on lawyers and the law have been going on here in the UK for some time now. It's just getting normalised.

I've signed up and expect good things, as I've found @rolandmcs.bsky.social one of the most consistently interesting posters here & on Twitter. Why not give his Substack a try?
