Visiting my Dad in Durham and a walk along the river produced this male Mandarin - a County tick for me

Some of the 7 Arctic Terns that dropped into Ferry Mere, RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes at 09:30 this morning: they only stayed about half an hour @birdguides.bsky.social

Hairy up at RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes: the Odonata season is truly upon us. Yesterday dozens of Variable Damsels & Banded Demoiselles & a single Four-spotted Chaser at RSPB Ouse Fen @britishdragonflies.bsky.social

No Mow May is paying off: our back lawn today @britishwildlife.bsky.social

Thanks to Richard Bradbury’s quick texting, we managed to add White Stork to the Over house list yesterday. Today (15th), the highlight for me a flyby Glossy Ibis at Berry Fen RSPB Cambs at 12:20 @birdguides.bsky.social

The righthand Black-headed Gull looked seriously pink in the field - you get some impression of that here

Red Squirrels are always great to see!

The speck of dirt is my second Osprey this spring: this one from the visitor centre at Teifi Marshes in sw Wales @birdguides.bsky.social

Always great to bump into an Osprey on your patch: this one gave better views than most! Cell 1 RSPB Ouse Fen @birdguides.bsky.social

A couple of nice Little Gulls at Barleycroft, Cambs this morning, found by Richard Grimmett @birdguides.bsky.social

Pair of Ferruginous Ducks from viewing screen Elney Lake, RSPB Fen Drayton this morning: our resident female and this new male - origin unknown @birdguides.bsky.social

Not sure what to make of "Eastern" Jackdaws – whether they're simply a reflection of variation in the UK population or genuinely birds from the east: they appear with some regularity locally in Cambs in early spring. Unfortunately didn't get better pic of the well-marked bird to the left.

Delighted finally to see a Masked Duck: the species has a big range but they are tough little beggars to find. Appropriately this one was at the Masked Duck Wetland in Jamaica #BirdsSeen2025

Black-billed Amazon: the last of the extant Jamaican endemics for us. Seen during an amazing day on the Ecclesdown Road recording 23 endemics

Digibinned Crested Quail-dove, one of the trickier Jamaican endemics. #birdsseen2025

Boc Jamaican Owl: the T2 Pro proved really useful in tracking this bird down #BirdingGear

I thought it might be useful to show some examples of how the T2 Pro performs on a dull day. Here's the first of 3 examples showing the photo through the T2 Pro next to the same view taken with the regular camera photo (on 5x zoom). See if you can spot the squirrel in this photo #BirdingGear

This is a new direction for @wwtworldwide.bsky.social, but I guess they're as fed up as anyone with the absurdity of lead ammunition still being in use in 2025 and finding its way into the human food chain. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yKK...

The view with my T2 Pro but although this Jack Snipe was only a few feet away, it took me a minute or two to spot it on the ground: unbelievable camouflage #BirdingGear

Drake Goosander in Covell’s Drain, RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes this evening; they’re surprisingly scarce locally.

Always nice to see a Shortie on the Patch RSPB Ouse Fen this evening

2CY Glaucous Gull again in Ouse Fen cell 10 roost this evening, also 1+ SEOwls hunting there @birdguides.bsky.social
