Some of the plants flowering in our garden borders this week... all pollinator magnets! Plenty more in the hedge and mini-wildflower meadow, too. #flowers #gardening #gardeningforpollinators #bees

I see you, baby blackbird, cosying up to me on the bench looking like butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth… But don’t think you’re fooling me. I’ve seen you eating our blueberries and if you weren’t so incredibly cute & friendly I’d be very cross that you’re eating them ALL! #wildlifegardening

John Clare Society Journal 44 (2025) has gone to print - landing on doormats before JC's birthday on 13 July. Harvest Mouse had found her kindred spirits - little souls with curious hearts and gentle paws. Like her, they loved sharing their joy. They taught each other how to wobble in the wind, how to tumble in style and how to find the best perch to watch this delightful world go by.

The dry stone wall my husband made a couple of years ago, for our tiny front garden, has settled in beautifully… And yesterday he added a fence, to go with it! Made from old chestnut fencing Rob rescued from a skip, and it couldn’t be more perfect. I love it 💚 #gardening

Your annual reminder of how to tell Field Scabious, Knautia arvensis, and Small Scabious, Scabiosa columbaria, apart with a quick glance. Have a look under the flower heads. Field Scabious has a double row of leaf-like bracts, and Small Scabious has a single row of narrow, bristle-tipped bracts.

For #Nature Studies this week my grandson & I have been watching the Wool Carder #bees on our Lamb's-ear. I reckon Indy (now aged 14... where does the time go?) did a great job writing up what he learned, in his Journal! Drawing copied from illustration by US artist, Samantha Gallagher.

Wrote a piece for @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social’s #30DaysWild. All about how to get more medieval with your connections to local place. Includes a ‘medieval’ map my daughter drew of a place in our village—a memory map of nature landmarks. #naturewriting www.wildlifetrusts.org/blog/30-days...

Podding peas from the allotment is, without doubt, my favourite summer job 🫛

When my ex-publishers stopped paying me the money they owed me & I took the rights back to the books I'd written for them, I purchased over 5000 books from their warehouse. Most of those are now gone. I would love to get these last remaining few out into the world this week...

With warmer temperatures forecast for the end of the week hopefully you’ll appreciate a watery theme for this week’s challenge! Find wild or naturalised aquatic plants in bloom and share for #wildflowerhour this Sunday 8-9pm using the hashtag #AquaticPlants 💦🌱

❗ Don't delay! Place shallow dishes of fresh, clean water around your garden - they can be a lifeline to thirsty creatures like #hedgehogs, birds & bees! 🦔 🐦 🐝 🦋 💧 Add a few pebbles so insects can perch & safely drink too! #WaterforWildlife #Sharetomakeaware

Gorgeous, in depth review by @amyjanebeer.bsky.social of a gorgeously immersive book, #TheCuckoosLea @drmjwarren.bsky.social … ‘by the end, we live … newly able to read the growth rings of place, & to perceive an alternative land shimmering over the one we already know.’ Oh, & that owl!

Great to see @chelseagreenbooks.bsky.social on Bluesky! As well as publishing my book, they've published brill books by @nicolawriting.bsky.social @themarshtit.bsky.social @vickihird.bsky.social @derekgow1965.bsky.social & @robintransition.bsky.social, whose new book looks FABULOUS! Worth a follow

Owl had been flying through the clouds for some time. Tired and lost, she had to find the courage to keep going. It was okay to be scared. Being brave was about doing something despite being scared. She took a breath, stretched her wings and flew on.

Wrenlets. These birds fledged 2 weeks ago - it was their mother who was collecting the jute fibre on Sunday, for the lining of a nest in the log shed. She has already started laying eggs there for a 2nd brood. So many insects available - will this be a 3rd brood year? @brigitstrawbridge.bsky.social
