I think an uncomfortable truth is that we have to save ourselves—personally, politically, spiritually. And this is a HARD truth to reconcile with. Your disabled characters can just be disabled. There's no need to create a plot or a world-specific reason for a disabled character. That's an option, sure. But consider writing folks who just happen to be disabled. It diversifies your world and adds representation that we deserve.

My friends & I saw Sinners last night. When I tell you that I could write DISSERTATIONS about this film…wow. Just masterful in every regard. I’m queer, Black and neurodivergent. I know all too well what it feels like to be marginalized, or not fully seen/accepted for who you are. And I know that’s wrong. So in essence, basic empathy. Everyone on this earth deserves to be seen for who they are.
