I'm 38 now. Please clap.

whats even crazier about this is that the redistribution is negative sum! if you passed a law saying "everything stays the same, but the bottom 9 deciles have to give the modeled amount of money to the top decile", then the top decile would get more money! this is a way to explain Kalecki, imo

This rules. Congrats to @bradlander.bsky.social and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social for making this alliance happen. May it govern the city and show the country what an incredible difference that a left-liberal coalition can make.

Folks, CBO estimate of the distributional effect of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is out: www.cbo.gov/system/files... It's grotesque

While Californians like me talk a lot about zoning to exclude the poor, New England has a long and sordid history of cities zoning specifically to exclude poor children from schools in wealthy towns by exclusively permitting studios, one-bedrooms, and age-restricted senior apartments.

Climate.gov, a major US government website supporting public education on climate science, will likely shut down after almost all of its staff were fired. What would be worse is if the website were co-opted to publish climate denial content.

can you credibly name limits to what you would support your party’s leader to do? if not, you might be in a cult.

Worth noting today that the entire budget of the NEH is about $200M.

my favorite phishing scam to come to my university inbox is in the form the “university president” or other high level administrators offering heavy duty construction equipment “to a loving home.”

We are not 5 years away from colonizing the galaxy! However, we are very close to having AI that can flawlessly replicate tech CEO bullshit, freeing all of society's resources that are currently being channeled towards extremely expensive human-powered word salad

State repression of peaceful protests can subject activists to injury and even death but—when broadcast to the world through media—often turns mass opinion against the state. bsky.app/profile/owas...

Bondi DOJ has a problem. On left: DOJ Indictment and Detention Memo allege Abrego Garcia lied to officer by not revealing he was coming from Texas On right: DHS Referral Report: "Subject stated he was driving 'three days ago' (11/27/2022) from Houston, TX to Temple Hills, MD (via St Louis, MO)"

Did these storms "come out of nowhere" or has the highly accurate weather forecasting system that we came to take for granted in recent decades been decimated by Trump administration purges at the NOAA and other related agencies?

BREAKING The President of California’s largest union has been detained during an ICE raid.

The government is returning Abrego Garcia to the US where he will face criminal charges. In other words, due process, including an opportunity to defend himself in court. abcnews.go.com/US/mistakenl...

astonishing lack of situational/self awareness

I was pleased to learn that this article is the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Article Award from the Animals and Society Section of the American Sociological Association. Thanks to the award committee for their service to the section!

“The University of Michigan is using private, undercover investigators to surveil pro-Palestinian campus groups, including trailing them on and off campus, furtively recording them and eavesdropping on their conversations…” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

It’s time to put the DOGE down.

they have create their own absurdities but in a parliamentary system, we could end this now. just saying.

wild stuff happening on Elon’s site.

accelerate the contradictions!!!!

The thing that bothers me most about the Trump and Musk row is atmospheric concentrations of CO2 just passed 430 parts per million for the first time in human history leading to more intense temperatures that threaten to trigger climatic feedback loops that could destroy civilisation itself.

are people still maintaining the kayfabe theory of this?

My favourite @yaleclimatecomm.bsky.social tool for understanding public opinion on climate is now available for the UK! 🇬🇧 Find out how many people in your area are worried about climate change, have experienced its impacts, support action from the government and more. The answers may surprise you!

Basically, Biden did what he promised, which was increase the audit rate on the rich, which is where the most consequential tax evasion occurs. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/05/u...

Gotta say, Tillson and Cuomo being terrible not withstanding, the slate of nyc mayoral candidates is impressive compared to the national political landscape.

here's the clip

The way people are talking about the current demolition of research funding and HE legitimacy reminds me of the early days of COVID when I (and others) said it would be at least six years before any normalcy. Rage, despondency, rejection…eventually voting for a dictator just to feel alive.

At some point the rubber meets the road for Hawley. If/when the ACA’s Medicaid expansion is cut back, Missouri is constitutionally obligated to pick up the fed’s share of funding. That’s a ton of cash. What’s Hawley do then? He will have to say Trump/GOP lied to him or take the hit directly.

Indiana's governor fired all the elected members of Indiana University's Board of Trustees. Given a recent policy change, he'll be able to fill those seats with appointees. Which means he'll basically have unilateral control over IU decisions, including who gets hired, tenured, and fired.
