I have an unfortunate tendency to negatively ruminate, especially on past events. Sometimes I spiral off into very negative moods. But a new mantra is helping - "here and now" reminds me to focus on the present moment, to be here now, because now is all we have

@effexcalibor.bsky.social Hey, I think your Twitter account may have been hacked

The “lets tell anyone we dont like to kill themselves” crowd are not welcome here sorry

A lot of the time these days I have a sense that this world is not real, it's just a stage setting, a painted backdrop over something else entirely

Anglicans obsessed with the papacy (I’m one of them) are the ecclesiastical equivalent of Americans obsessed with the British monarchy - the strange phenomenon of people being obsessed with the one thing whose repudiation defines their existence

The CEO of Microsoft has an iPhone. The world has changed

Reading a story from Horncastle about how the Bishop of Lincoln once dropped in on some labourers threshing in a barn, and they immediately assumed he was the devil (from his black clothes and shovel hat) and fell at his feet begging 'Mr Devil' not to carry them off to hell

The rapidly expanding South Asian community of my town is extraordinarily fond the classic puffer jacket. The women in particular are rarely seen outside without one

@sankuperis.bsky.social What do Lithuanians think when linguists say the language is the most conservative in Europe? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithuan...

Years ago there was an intriguing film called 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. It was about a future world in which the technology existed to erase unwanted memories, and the possible effects that might have on the lives of users. I think about it sometimes. I certainly have memories /1

I used to find talk about 'pet parents' and 'fur babies' and so forth rather cringe-inducing and anthropomorphic - until I eventually realised that such language sends an important message to some people. Animals are sadly abandoned on a regular basis or just abused

After going cold turkey more than a year ago, my old liking for Duolingo unexpectedly came back to life recently, thanks to the new Chess course. How long I will linger though is very much still to be confirmed

@dannybate.bsky.social Just six weeks away: May 27

I feel seen 😹

I just downloaded the Notion app to my phone: naturally he write-up crows about the inclusion of pointless, 'me too' AI features. The runaway AI hype train is still rollin' down the track it seems

Why would my stomach be quite happy with a sugary chocolate bar but then churn unhappily when I eat an apparently healthy nectarine?? 🍫🍑 It's hard to eat virtuously when you body plays tricks on you like this :/

Watching 'Blade Runner 2049' for the first time since the initial release. Just as compelling as I remembered, but it suffers from a common flaw of even the best science fiction: being set far too soon in the future. 2049 is just 24 years away: the world is not going to be threatened by /1

Is or isn't it too late? Some days I really don't know

One distinctive feature of Yorkshire English is the use of 'wor' for 'was'. This is a regionalism you can still hear on a daily basis. Earlier I got talking to a random dude in a grocery store and he told me about how he'd gotten into a fight once and /1

A 🧵 About the most astonishing source I ever found: The Alpenpost, a handwritten anti-Nazi and anti-Stalinist newspaper edited and illustrated by two absurdly precocious girls from 1935 to 1940.

🇬🇧🤝🇺🇦 "Russia is an aggressor. Zelensky is a war leader whose country has been invaded, and we should all support him, not pander to Putin," — Starmer.

I am standing on the doorstep of a potentially difficult, intimidating transition period. No matter how much I might recognise that some things really need to change, the devil you know always has that powerful lure
