As Congressional Republicans push for Medicaid work requirements, here’s how it’s going in Georgia: Deloitte Consulting is taking in tens of millions in tax dollars to manage the country’s only Medicaid work requirement program — and sell it to the public. Only 3% of those eligible have enrolled.

It's also a #familycaregiver penalty-if you are full-time (or in reality more than full-time) caring for someone, you may not be able to seek other employment. BTW enabling family caregivers to have access to SNAP benefits is cost-saving approach because it reduces medical institutionalization costs

There are so many acronyms in Federal #health budget talk. I decided to go deep on #LIHEAP, a program that directly impacts nearly 7 million households (inc. many #olderadults) who have to decide between "heat and eat" every freezing winter & scorching summer open.substack.com/pub/caradigm...

It's really incredible to see brands recognizing that holidays may not be happy for everyone, and that the inundation of marketing emails may be triggering/challenging/upsetting. So far, I've seen #Etsy and #DraperJames with messages about opting out of #mothersday content. #empathy #toxicpositivity

Today's lesson: Don't go berry 🍓 picking on a weekday morning unless you want to hear antivaxxer moms boast about all they learned from Instagram reels about measles 😤

Here's a thoughtful analysis on how the proposed Federal budget impacts #publichealth and the populations served (or formerly served) Budgets are reflections of a government's values😞 open.substack.com/pub/healthsc...

Listening to @brian-goldstone.bsky.social talk abt working #homelessness with @aspeninstitute.bsky.social: -actual # of homeless in this country is 6x what the estimates show -extended stay hotels become profitable homeless shelters Health w/o housing is near impossible; housing is #publichealth

Reading summaries of #100days and realize you could substitute #familycaregivers into many of these lists, a population experiencing many compounding negative impacts nationalpartnership.org/35-ways-trum... generations.asaging.org/exec-ordersf...

New numbers out today: 7M Americans living with Alzheimer's, 12M individuals in a caregiver role Why #medicaid cuts matter: www.linkedin.com/pulse/when-s... "People living with dementia...will be left to navigate even harsher realities with even fewer hands reaching out to guide them."

To answer the age old question of what is #publichealth: "You can think about public health as protecting, promoting, and preventing" - Dr. Anne Schuchat at today's hearing

While measles may be catching the attention of #armchairepidemiologists, pay attention to pertussis. I naively hoped my dissertation knowledge wouldn't be needed in my lifetime, but time to dust off that #whoopingcough info

Useful instructions for #caregivers who are dealing with claim denials as part of trying to get healthcare for your person. I dream of a future where caregivers spend more time holding someone's hand than holding on the phone for the insurance company #healthcare #insurance #claims

Today's #caregiver is often tomorrow's patient due to the physical and mental health demands of being a family caregiver

When family asks what I want for my birthday, my answer for the past few years has been either creation of or update of your advance directive. There is no more compassionate or loving gift. #advancedirective #caregivers

This month's @healthybrhd.bsky.social kicks off w rough news about reducing the # of community health workers #chw. Immediate ways these frontline #publichealth workers will be missed: 🔻 in people served, people unreached for health + prevention messaging, no health dept rep at local events #cville

With #publichealth laboratory funding reductions, it might be time to get a microscope so we can identify 🦠 at home 🔬
