My grandmas were immigrants, my mum & sisters in law are immigrants; my sister & nephews are migrants. My kids study maths, Shakespeare, dance, act & score tries alongside the kids of immigrants. My dad’s life was saved by immigrants. Immigrants have made us richer, wiser, stronger Win the fight

An absolute WARRIOR 🦉 Wishing Sam Hutchinson a speedy recovery and sending our very best wishes from Hillsborough. Get well soon, Hutch 💙🦉

Simply this.

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉 Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace. You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

Mmmmm... I thought Reform didnt like home working

Remember this one. In five years, or ten, or twenty. When we're a weird, dirty, backward nation that still sets fire to stuff, and places like China and India start to ask us why.

The results up and down the country show that the Tories have had a very bad night, with Reform taking votes and seats, but we must face the reality that Labour lost seats as well. Our Labour vote split to the right, to Lib Dems, independents & to the Greens and disillusionment saw many stay home.

Shut down the youth clubs. Sell off the playing fields. Put up "no ball games" signs. Make public places hostile to teenagers. Then: "Young people, eh? Always indoors looking at their phones."

Stop calling it deporting, so MAYBE more Americans will get it. "Deporting" is sending someone back, after due process, to the country they came from, where they arrive a free person. This is human trafficking to a foreign torture prison for the rest of their lives. GET THE LANGUAGE RIGHT.

Last night was the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops. I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Remind you of anyone?

Harvard is older than the US. It predates the Declaration of Independence by 140 years, the Constitution by 152. It has existed 1,600 times longer than this US Administration. It will continue long after the current chaos is a faint memory. The question is how much damage will be done before then.

Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism. If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison—accused of no crime, with no trial—they can do it to anyone. Americans of conscience must stand against this now.

I’ve always been perplexed by people who need to leave the planet in order to realise how precious and beautiful it is.

Remembering the 97 🌹

Trump is talking about shuttering publications and networks he disagrees with. He's talking about deporting and imprisoning Americans who dissent. This is unprecedented and undemocratic. Wake up America.

I assumed this was an unfair headline masking a difficulty someone was having (eg a house that she didn’t want and couldn’t use but was struggling to sell). But no, it is exactly what it says it is. “…this has meant we have to put it on the market”: you mean the policy is working as intended?

The Good Friday Agreement was signed 27 years ago today. It was an act of delicate diplomacy, which delivered peace and security to a part of our country where those qualities had long been absent. Those achievements should never be taken for granted.

Trevor Phillips just said what we’ve danced around for 9 years: A US trade deal means chlorinated chicken, lower food standards & worse trade with the EU. The 2016 ballot paper sold a fantasy - that we could have both. We can’t. EU or US. Only 14% want the latter. #BrexitReality #trevorphillips

Quick reminder: Le Pen wasn't found guilty because the French courts hate democracy. She was found guilty because she broke the fucking law. open.substack.com/pub/iandunt/...

Thames Water names US private equity (PE) group KKR as preferred bidder. Worst possible outcome. Water industry woes started with PE. PE business model: profiteering, asset-stripping, low investment, staff/wage cuts, tax dodging. Govt must reject PE takeover. Must nationalise.

Of course, ending DEI programmes is actually all about ensuring posh boy no marks like Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees Mogg keep the advantages that accident of birth has granted them and which have caused such immense damage to this country for so long.

Take note

Honestly.

It wasn't mentioned in the Chancellor's speech, but the Spring Statement papers contain a major suite of anti-tax avoidance proposals, probably the toughest ever introduced. Thread:

🔑 under-discussed point — why they were on signal:

Figured I’d hop on here today for the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. With everything going on right now, it’s easy to feel like regular folks can’t make a difference – but the ACA is a reminder that change is possible when we fight for progress.

Same could be said for Labour, Conservative and Reform. If no political party or politician in this country is talking about wealth redistribution, then I am not interested in anything they have to say.

US deports hundreds of Venezuelans "despite" court order. Meaning, of course: "in breach of". On the face of it, it looks like there is now a full constitutional crisis in United States, in that the executive is now freely ignoring court orders. Crisis point reached. www.bbc.com/news/article...

With this check, the United States purchased Alaska from Russia for $7.2m in 1866 What happens if they want it back & invade Alaska? Would the US be happy to exchange land for the prospect of peace? Or just like Ukraine would they fight to keep their land? www.archives.gov/milestone-do...

I think they call this “freedom of speech”

"You are very, very welcome here in Downing Street. As you heard from the cheers on the street outside, you have full backing across the United Kingdom. We will stand with you and Ukraine for as long as it may take."

Every news channel has been saying all day the Tate brothers' history is one of misogyny, their return is shady, and the effect on victims traumatic. AND YET... all of them are standing by to livecast any remark the Tates care to make after landing, live and in full. You are part of the problem.

💥 BREAKING: At Apple's 2025 annual meeting of shareholders today, proposal entitled “Request to Cease DEI Efforts" is rejected by shareholders. Right-wing nonprofit National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) proposal was also rejected by Costco shareholders 98-2 percent.

Looks like not a single one of Reform UK's five MPs made it into the Commons for David Lammy's update on a momentous week for Ukraine. (Two of them were present for the UQ on electric cars minutes before, but then left the chamber).

Better advertising to come, but I’m excited to announce that registration is now live for our very heavily subsidised Teaching Indigenous Histories & Perspectives Conference on 28 June! Bursaries for travel are available plus free follow-up support. Please do share with all your teacher networks!
