Kinda wild that we all get to pay taxes to fund a civil war against us

"Public lands eligible for sale in the bill encompass over 120 million acres, including local recreation areas, wilderness study areas, ... critical wildlife habitat and big game migration corridors." They say it's for housing, but very little BLM & USFS land "is actually suitable for housing." 🤬

See which of YOUR public lands congress wants to sell off to the rich www.wilderness.org/articles/med...

No Kings Day was one of the largest days of protest in US history. From deep red small towns to our largest cities, millions of people turned out to make it clear that the American people will not bow to fascism. #NoKings

The fossil fuel companies have known about it for decades. "This is an *actual* conspiracy." 😭

Honestly, all this needs is some snarky tuba. 😭 🎶Bum-de-dum-de🎶

What if one of the most powerful forces shaping our lives was something most ppl never talk about? This film looks great. It's also the topic of a new academic paper of mine to be published soon. Calling it neoliberal capitalism would be more accurate though. The former is built upon the latter. 🔥

I promise y’all: marching in step is quite easy. Nothing difficult about it. That bad marching was intentional. I guarantee it.

🚨Millions came out yesterday for #NoKings. Estimates vary, but one thing is clear: it ranks among the largest protests in US history. ❌👑

A more beautiful world is possible ❤️‍🔥

🚨⚡They are playing "Fortunate Son," a song that highlights how some ppl w/ connections or wealth, could avoid serving in the military, while others w/o $$/status were drafted. A powerful anti-war anthem bc it resonated with ppl who felt Vietnam's burden was unfairly distributed. #bonespurs #nokings

A real authoritarian trifecta on MSNBC right now: 1. Police attacking peaceful protestors (repression of dissent) 2. A tyrant's military parade (propaganda) 3. A wanted ad for the murderer of a democratic politician (political violence) America, we are under attack from within. #NoKings

At this site, there once existed a prison that represented the French monarchy's abuse of power. When it was taken over by revolutionaries in 1789, the French Revolution began. #NoKings

"You can cut the branches of the tree of liberty, but you can’t destroy the roots because they are too strong and too many.” -Toussaint L'Ouverture #NoKings

Relevant, as the National Day of Protest is coming up on Saturday. Know your free speech rights.

"We need answers" is as bad as "thoughts and prayers." It's a hollow statement that gives power away to someone else. What's needed is action. Stand up. Do something. #nokings

This is not okay. I'm protesting with no doubt millions of other Americans on Saturday. I hope you will join these protests.

Saying "environmental groups" here is as absurd as the NYT headline making rounds today about "pro-vaccine groups." Why? Because these "groups" are people who wish to live & be healthy & who wish the same for children & future generations. These are basic human impulses, not special interests.

"you're unhappy because you spend too much time on your phone" speak for yourself i'm posting this shit from desktop like a true lunatic

Is there a word for LLM/chatbot gaslighting yet? amandaguinzburg.substack.com/p/diabolus-e...

Is the climate community going to remain silent after Israel abducted one of our most prominent advocates? My feeds should be full of condemnation of the kidnapping of humanitarians in international waters, ESPECIALLY in the climate community..... and yet....

To the extent it's voluntary, my guess: young people (who can) are walking straight out of the overlap. It's true that many are giving up on traditional career pathways because, well... *waves arms around*

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

🔥 LA PROTEST QUEEN 👸 TO ARMED NATIONAL GUARD IN LA: “This is how ridiculous you look!” *Puts on a dinosaur costume* 🦕 THEN: “What the hell is this? You’re Americans, aren’t you? Put down your weapons, don’t follow these fascists.” 🇺🇸 (Someone pls buy her a drink on us)

Let's talk about agnotology: a 🧵 "agnotology (formerly agnatology) is the study of deliberate, culturally induced ignorance or doubt." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnotol...

Glad to see my alma mater on here, but there should be hundreds of universities in this effort.

*International students represent about 15% of all higher ed students. *They subsidize US students, so expect domestic student costs to increase *Trump complains about tariffs but he is destroying an industry where the US is a huge net exporter www.nytimes.com/2025/05/23/u...

Ohio is soon to follow, post-SB1.

The European EFTA Court in Luxembourg today confirmed that it is illegal to approve new oil and gas fields without assessing the climate impacts of the emissions that occur when the oil is burned, in a case brought by Natur og Ungdom and Greenpeace Norway www.greenpeace.org/internationa...

This might be a special issue to consider! Lovely editors and a great topic: Methodological advances for locally led climate change adaptation. See more here: www.sciencedirect.com/special-issu...

NEW: NOAA retires its widely cited billion-dollar weather and climate database amid staff cuts. Unique database had been tallying disaster costs for 45 years. www.cnn.com/2025/05/08/c...

"The fact that we could have had better versions of the world if we had gotten our act together 30 yrs ago is no reason to change our perspective on the fights in front of us. ... We still have the responsibility to do what moves the world in the direction of justice." - @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social

Sharing this video & message from a dear colleague who spent 25+ yrs at NOAA & recently had his last day: "Today is a tough day. Tomorrow will be better. We all just have to work like hell for it." The video celebrates these civil servants & the immense loss to society these cuts bring.

My friend’s daughter lost her job. She’s been a park ranger for 20+ years and is devoted to the forests she protects. When she lost her job she also lost her home - she didn’t get the little cabin in the forest free, she paid rent. So, jobless, homeless, now living with her parents - she’s 45.

Fulfilling fears and expectations from a few weeks ago, all the volunteer contributing authors of the sixth National Climate Assessment have been removed from their roles.

FBI agents have arrested a judge in Wisconsin on obstruction charges, claiming that she helped an undocumented immigrant evade arrest. This country is in a full blown authoritarian crisis.

Applications are open for our summer lab in the Greek mountain. This year's theme is "Anthropo-Scenes: Restaging Climate Dramas for Environmental Justice". Call open till Sunday 4th May. Pls share! www.pelionsummerlab.net/theme1.html

My PhD student's NSF grant was terminated today. Her dissertation investigates why air pollution monitoring, metrics, and regulations don't properly capture the harms experienced by marginalized communities--esp in the most polluted Detroit neighborhoods. She and I are happy to talk with press etc.

We really should be thinking of this in terms of state violence and theft.

The 2026 budget passback plan calls for eliminating NOAA Research, the scientific backbone that keeps weather forecasts, alerts, and warnings accurate and effective. This would have disastrous consequences. Read the AMS statement, in partnership w/ @nwas.org: bit.ly/4cz2RtC

Climate research doesn't fuel climate anxiety. Failure to act on climate change does. Canceling climate research will undoubtedly fuel climate anxiety among young people as well as adults. Great article here. 🔥

The president told a Central American dictator to build five more massive slave labor camps to hold US citizens.
