We're hiring! CIERA at Northwestern seeks a PhD-level Director of Operations to lead at the intersection of astronomy, data science & engineering. $100–118k, faculty title, great benefits. Apply by July 11! 🔗 bit.ly/4mVzEhv #AcademicJobs #Astrophysics #Leadership

This is particularly problematic for the astronomy division, which is slated for a 40% cut. My understanding is that astronomy is currently 70% facilities and 30% grants (which is usually cut first), so if you’re cutting 40% total it completely eliminates AAG grants *and* requires axing facilities.

Also of note/horror: this budget makes the 30M downselect explicit (GMT, not TMT) --

so, uh, can anyone else log into NSF at all right now?

Not great Bob!

I should never check the news on vacation. This is catastrophically fucked

Grades are in, classes are done, and I'm on leave for fall semester, so no more teaching until Jan 2026! I like teaching, but it's going to be great to focus on research for a while.

Damn even the Babylon Bee is clowning on Trump at this point?

It's enraging to see the EEOC and Title VII weaponized like this. These people are, without exaggeration, segregationists.

It’s always unsettling when I get ads for very specific (and rare!) diseases. Does the algorithm know something I don’t?

🚀We are ready for launch...of the official social media account for doing science with #NASARoman! This account will keep researchers informed about opportunities for preparing for and participating in Roman science. Follow us to stay involved. #ExpandOurView

If someone isn't photoshopping the new pope into a Chicago-style hot dog right this moment, what is even the point of this website?

Funny how my posting has increased 100x now that the only thing I have left to do this semester is grading…

100% this. We need to drag his loser ass till the end of time.

Since when does research.gov use three explanation points?

Love getting emails from fancy prizes to “Tune in as we announce our new winners!” Like unless you’re giving it to me I’m not waking up at 3AM…

Interesting #galactic paper out today that finds that the stellar stream OCSN 49 is likely a disrupted galactic open cluster. ☄️🧪 What destroyed it 100 million years ago? Alexis N. Miller et al have the answers: it probably got torn apart by a massive cloud of gas & dust ⬇️

He's running and I'm so here for it
