Periodic reminder that you can read and use wherever Bible translation you like.

I’ve lost this Bible about two months ago and I’ve been searching like crazy for it. Yesterday my husband nonchalantly gives it to me. Said he found it on the floor. But it course.

God the Father, light creator, to thee laud and honor be; to thee, Light of Light begotten, praise be sung eternally; Holy Spirit, Light-Revealer, glory, glory be to thee; mortals, angels, now and ever praise the Holy Trinity. #TrinitySunday

I managed to keep only one Bible out as we are preparing to move. Pros: it’s a good discipline for me because it has made me pick a translation to serve as my main translation for memorization, preaching, teaching, devotions, etc. In this case, the NIV. Cons: my copy is so HEAVY. Easily 5 pounds.

“And that is why Jesus didn’t want to be made a king. It’s good to be king. Kings take. But Jesus gives.” This is a mighty word that filled these dry Baptist bones with life. Thanks for your words and wisdom and prophetic witness, Rev. Dr. @wilgafney.bsky.social. #NoKingsProtest

“Where we used to see a panorama of wars and strutting kings and court harlots, we now see the struggle of the people to wrest a living from nature and to shake off their oppressors.” —The Rev. Walter Rauschenbusch, _Christianity and the Social Crisis_ (p. 45)

I was a protest chaplain when the APD shot tear gas and bullets at the students at UT. Here’s my advice to all those going to the #NoKingsProtest today: 1. Wear clothes you can move quickly in. Sacrifice cute and aesthetic for survivability. 2. Wear as minimal of clothing as possible. 1/4

Helwys was not imprisoned by the order of King James and left to (quite literally) die of starvation just for his theological descendants to crown this man king. We are the Dissenting Church. It is our history and our trajectory.

A reminder—not from me, but from the founder of the Baptist tradition—that being a good Baptist means being a “troubler of Israel,” to borrow from King Ahab. It is therefore the imperative of all Baptists of good conscience to say no to this administration’s Christian Nationalism. #NoKingsProtest

A reminder to all my friends: before you start lampooning the Baptist tradition—and believe me, we have much in our tradition that warrants lampooning—just remember that not all Baptists are Southern Baptists.

My heart breaks. Sometimes it’s hard being a Baptist. #NotThatKindOfBaptist

A reminder that the Southern Baptist Convention had to sell their headquarters in downtown Nashville to pay for all the sex abuse legal fees. I’ll start taking anything they say seriously when they get their own sinful house in order. www.cnn.com/2025/06/10/u...

But as for me and my house, we do our little gay family devotions from the NIV2011

Around this time two years ago, I got to read the account of Paul’s trial at the Bema Seat of Corinth…in Corinth! It was an honor and blessing to stand where the Apostle once stood, and to speak the words the Apostle once said. Thank you, @slitheryseraph.bsky.social, for capturing this for me.

The Old Testament is not contrary to the New:

Congratulations to the Rev. @ryancagle.com! Welcome to the ordained life!

Lord have mercy. baptistnews.com/article/jenn...

Pentecost preaching fit: red Hawaiian shirt, gray trousers, black crocks, black Casio calculator watch, black silicone wedding ring, red Guatemalan clergy stole. I was on vacation when I told my friend I could pulpit supply for him so I’m going to look like I was on vacation.

This is the feast of fire, air, and water Poured out and breathed and kindled into earth. The earth herself awakens to her maker And is translated out of death to birth. malcolmguite.wordpress.com/2025/06/08/o...

“Speaking in tongues heralds the doom of Babylon, warns of the judgment impending upon the Antichrist, joins in the jubilation of the heavenly chorus when the Great City falls.” —William Stringfellow #Pentecost

Vacay reads. Am I really relaxing if I don’t have at least one classical theologian’s work, one thick book nearing a thousand pages, and a leatherbound Bible that weighs five pounds at minimum?

Beautiful and sound advice from my all time favorite musician. Miss him each and every day! Bubbles up, Jimmy.

I lovey husband @carsonhollis.bsky.social!

Life in the ordained ministry: anointing a trans man tonight and filling the pulpit of a friend for Pentecost as he and his husband grieve the recent death of their son. ⚓️

RIP Julian of Norwich, you would’ve loved “Oceans” by Hillsong

Sad to hear Walter Brueggemann has died. News comes from biographer Conrad Kanagy (his book on Brueggemann: publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/review-and...). I've read numerous Brueggemann books & learned a lot. Glad I got to meet him several years ago.

A sad day. Rest in peace, Rev. Dr. Walter Brueggemann.

Looking at the denominational affiliations of US presidents should tell us Mainliners that we have to clean up our own houses before pinning all the blame on evangelicalism. Reagan was DOC. Bush Sr was Episcopalian. Clinton is CBF. Bush Jr is UMC. Trump was PC(USA) for most of his adult life.
