It's sad to know US scientists invented the most sophisticated weather forecasting models in the world, the satellites and instruments to measure atmospheric conditions, and an advanced alert system to warn the public of coming disasters, and the Trump administration is destroying it all.

New story day! "Laser Eyes Ain't Everything" is free to read on @diabolicalplots.com ! My wheelchair-using superhero does battle with the non-ADA-compliant superhero union. Come for the punny superhero names, stay for the disability access rage & catharsis! www.diabolicalplots.com/dp-fiction-1...

My new Genre Grapevine on the fallout from the Seattle Worldcon generative AI debacle is now up. This was a stupid move on Worldcon's part and I hope they can get their shit together. www.patreon.com/posts/128296...

Crowdfunding is kinda fun if I get to shout things like: CHARACTERS I HOPE YOU'LL LOVE IN AMNANDI SAILS: Amnandi Khumalo, witch, teen, but not teen witch Maab Pinyasama, feather-festooned sea captain Amis Dotrig, ragamuffin & faithful friend Daoud D’jntree, mystic of naps Rukkai, undersea dweller

The phrase “we will never see his like again” is overplayed, but it’s the truth for Coach Pop. Even if his NBA all-time wins record is eclipsed someday, his legacy as an outspoken military man who stood for civil rights, gender equality, anti-MAGAism, and human decency — transcends sports. SPURS ♾️.

love when people get caught using LLMs for some important analytical task "to save time" and then they're like "don't worry we rigorously vetted the results." man....you either saved time OR rigorously vetted the results, but i promise you didn't do both

Good way to guarantee the publication of inferior male writers, as good male writers would get better deals with more prominent publishers.

One of those interesting moments in the discussion of free speech where one can usefully ask why free speech is good. 1/n

Hope there's a sequel... "Any Sign of Life" by @raecarson.bsky.social Narrated by Amy Landon “My smidge of hope is a fragile thing, a tiny waving flame in a vast landscape of reeking darkness. I will shelter it, treasure it, coax it, because the alternative is despair, and I don't do despair."

I keep having dreams about Any Sign Of Life by @raecarson.bsky.social and I don’t know what to do about it. Where is the fandom for this book? One work on Ao3 and that work is MINE. Where is the show? Am I the only person insane about this book?

New story day! “They Bought a House” in @nightmare-magazine.com is an unhinged haunted house set in Benin city. There are ghosts making ccoconut rice, there are people living in walls, and most importantly, there is Nothing 🤗. Read here: www.nightmare-magazine.com/fiction/they...

Stop what you're doing and go read this story! Rae and I saw an early draft of this when we workshopped with Sunwoo at Clarion. I thought it was brilliant and publishable then. It's even better now.

I really hate this take. You have no idea why people didn't vote. We live in a country with systemic voter suppression. Election Day isn't a national holiday in the US and there's a host of mechanisms set up to encourage people in many states not to vote.

The problem with “you take my idea and write the book and we split the money” is I don’t know if you can write and sell a book, so I’m going to need the money upfront. It’s called an advance. Look it up. Seriously, my ideas are rad.

As a former child junior olympic-level runner, I have a few thoughts on the attacks on trans girls in sports. I ran for one of the most competitive teams in Southern California, and people who ran for my have gone on to become professional athletes. And these bans: they're fucking NONSENSE. 🧵

Where's my Splint Enz folks? All you alternative '70s/'80s kids? I'm listening to "One Step Ahead" and "Poor Boy" this morning. Not their biggest hits but they've got me earwormed this morning. And if I've earwormed you by mentioning them, you're welcome.

it was the worst of times, it was the worst of times

Good morning from the ruins of the Department of Education

Last day of winter: 70F, sunshine, flowers, absolutely beautiful Me: Oh boy! I'm really in the mood for spring! I can't wait to get outside tomorrow! First day of spring: 30sF, thick gray clouds, wind, lingering drizzle turning briefly to sleet and snow Spring: (Nelson laugh from The Simpsons)

At a glance, they appear to have stolen every single book I've ever written. And some of Diana Wynne Jones's that they thought were mine. 😒
