If you work on #education and #integration, you might like this article! Within the TEAMS (Teaching that Matters for Migrant Students) project, we compiled a taxonomy of European educational practices that aim at supporting migrant students! It's open access! ;) journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

One of the interesting things about being autistic is that when you describe something honestly and accurately, people will reply by saying "thank you for your critical perspective."

Deadline approaching!!

Micheál Hearty and I presented the preliminary findings of the ESF-funded project "Piecemeal Peacebuilding and The Trajectory of Discourse: Linguistic Rights in Post-Conflict North of Ireland/Northern Ireland" at the #SLSA2025, looking at how peace agreements in NI have shaped linguistic justice.

Delighted to have presented my and Mattia Zeba's paper on new inclusive approaches to linguistic justice in the @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social 2025 conference! So nice to connect with a rich community of amazing scholars!

I found this video so deeply moving - it is about the Minyak language in eastern Tibet, and one speaker's journey to losing hope that there is any chance for the language to survive. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_-Z...

Boosting the signal on this fantastic event taking place next week in Stockholm, organised by @jsolerc.bsky.social and Nina Carlsson. Very much looking forward to it - the presentations, the discussions, to meeting many good friends, and hopefully making new ones, too. www.su.se/department-o...

With a bit of delay, I'm happy to share that Micheál Hearty and I have obtained a small grant from #ESF for our project "Piecemeal Peacebuilding and The Trajectory of Discourse: Linguistic Rights in Post-Conflict NI" We will present some preliminary findings at the #SLSA conference in Liverpool!

📣 If you're in Belgium on March 16, come join the next Assises de l'AfricaMuseum! François Makanga will talk about "Guides and colonial museums, what are the issues? Decolonial mediation or the key to memorial denial"

Really looking for to this event where we will also host my dear brilliant friend @cecigialdini.bsky.social 👇

Join us at the University of Derby on Friday 11th April for a seminar on #migrationpolicy in #postBrexit Europe. I will talk about the challenges in NI's labour market and Alessio D'Angelo and Marco Palillo will discuss asylum policy in the UK and Italy. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/migration-...

Your friendly neighborhood librarian here...buy physical copies of your favorite books, especially challenged or banned books. Preferably from small local merchants. That's all; carry on. #Read #BookSky #Resist 📚

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

Now Mordi is cheering me up and giving me extra cuddles to make up for my deferral.

Please, donate if you can! ❤️ 🅰️ 🆎 🅱️ 🅾️ ❤️ NI needs around 1,200 blood donors every week and at times even routine donors can't donate. The process to #DonateBlood is super easy and you save up to 9 lives (also you get biscuits, I can't stress this enough) nibts.hscni.net/register-as-...

I was deferred from donating blood because of low iron. I'm gutted cause donating is such an important solidarity gesture for me. My grandma died of leukemia and my father has always taught me the importance of giving this simple gift to a stranger to honour her memory. #BloodDonation

Per i miei follow italiani: dato che i pronomi neutrali al momento non sono diffusi nella nostra bella lingua, mi trovo costretta a usare il femminile. Vi prego di immaginare tutte quelle desinenze -a come un femminile drag ✨💅 Che alla fine we are born naked and the rest is drag. Rawr.

Rotten academia, here we go.

I'm part of that demographic for whom the faith in humanity is riding entirely on whether or not Pedro Pascal is as nice as he seems (cit @daveostowdraws.bsky.social on @newyorker.com) ✨Papi, somos tu legión queer, iremos contigo hasta el infierno✨

My manager sent me an email to remind me not to work on Monday because it's Brigid’s day. A boss in a previous job told me that they were working on their holiday so I should have done so as well. Funny enough, I'm way more productive now. And on Monday, I'll sleep and watch TV. #AcademicChatter

There's nothing more energising than starting the year with 3 different grant applications. Me at the moment:

📣 Participants needed again for our MES-AIS project! ➡️www.qub.ac.uk/sites/mes/ We have asked EU nationals to share their stories and now we are looking to hear what NI employers and sector representatives have to say on the labour market post-Brexit! Please share this!🙏

Tariq Modood discusses multiculturalism, ways of integrating difference and the remaking of citizenship. 🔎 Part of our #ConnectedSociologies Curriculum Project, which offers free open-access educational resources, including video lectures, reading lists and detailed lesson plans. buff.ly/3ZPnnAe

Home is where Paco The Grumpy Cat is. Happy holidays, fellow #academics. Please, shut down those laptops and find a pet to cuddle, you deserve some rest! And lots of love and support to those for whom the holiday season is hard. You can do this! #AcademicChatter

Have a read at the article Nataša Pantić (UniEdinburgh) and I wrote about teachers' roles and strategies in including migrant students in Scotland in the special issue of Language Society and Policy #migrantstudents #inclusivesociety #inclusive #school #EAL www.lspjournal.com/post/rethink...

Delighted to have attended the @ccbscrossborder.bsky.social dissemination event on North-South implementation bodies. Such great insights on the need for an all island perspective for growth, well-being and peace. (picture is bad, intentions were good)

URGENT APPEAL!! Please circulate it! #venezuelalibre #Venezuela

The #PSA2025 programme is out! I'll present a really cool paper (if I can say so myself) with the excellent @MattiaZeba (@EuracMinorities ) on intersectional, feminist and vulnerability approaches to linguistic justice! I hope to see lots of you in Birmingham in April ✈️

Delighted to take part to the 2024 North South Research Programme conference and to present the preliminary findings of the MES-AIE project with Dr Elaine Moriarty TCD School of Social Sciences & Philosophy and Dr Emma Calvert Queen's University Belfast.

I have just concluded this amazing course organised by the Organización de los Estados Americanos & the Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos #CIDH on the Interamerican system of Human Rights and its mechanism in matters of memory, truth and justice. It was an incredibly enriching experience

The Special Issue of Language Society and Policy on Languages in UK Education is out! So far you can find the Introduction by the editors Wendy Ayres-Bennett & Charles Forsdick and the first three papers. Stay tuned, I also have a paper coming soon! www.lspjournal.com/post/languag...
