There are three Alberta investigative stories on @thetyee.ca website today. @thetyee's newsletters are free but if you chose to become a paid @thetyee subscriber, you're helping investigative journalism survive in Alberta and B.C. subscribe.thetyee.ca/alberta/

The juxtaposition of these two posts requires no further comment.

Also, remember Danielle Smith complaining about the federal govt passing a law that stops energy companies from lying or misleading the public about clean energy initiatives?

Via @brettmckay.bsky.social It appears that contrary to his public statements, Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides didn't ban books in response to parental complaints. How Conservative Activists Shaped Alberta's Book Ban Plan via @thetyee.ca thetyee.ca/News/2025/06...

This is Alberta. A young couple I know took their one-year-old daughter with a 41C fever to Red Deer Hospital emergency last week. They spent nine hours - all night - waiting to see a doctor before they gave up and left. They waited a few more hours until their family doctor's clinic opened.

You see, when your whole life has been a series of transactions, designed for personal gain, it’s perhaps impossible to comprehend the idea of public goods. When government has only ever been an obstacle for your personal goals, you can’t appreciate it as a system that creates things for others.

Janice Stein is a treasure. An interesting perspective on Netanyahu government, and some thought-provoking commentary and insights on Saudi Arabia's changing attitudes towards women, plus their AI initiatives.

Canada Revenue won't disclose if it is reviewing the JCCF's charity status.

Law society panel has reserved judgment. If Carpay is not disbarred I will be surprised. LSA lawyer was very thorough and on point. It was a surgical dissection of Carpay’s behaviour

Nenshi's campaign dropped this at my house today. This is the front of the four-page glossy leaflet. In case anyone is wondering, Nenshi is not running against Danielle Smith.

I previously mistakenly posted that Carpay had resigned. He applied to resign, that was denied by the law society and so he's now facing disbarment.

Woah. Law Society of Alberta is seeking disbarment of John Carpay, president of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, and Jay Cameron. LSA lawyer argues Manitoba law society did not have authority to disbar them because they are not a member of that law society.

Another incredible about-face by Carpay as he now prostrates himself before the law society panel. But his tone was much different in his fundraising pitch.

Carpay is now giving extensive testimony about how abjectly contrite he was. Which is odd, given his public pronouncements, as I reported. thetyee.ca/News/2023/11...

Covering the Law Society of Alberta sanction hearing for John Carpay for hiring a private investigator to surveil Manitoba's chief justice. Turns out he also hired the PI to surveil Manitoba premier Brian Pallister and the province's chief medical officer of health. All were videoed and photographed

Very high smell of political interference in a decision by a captured regulator that directly benefits a far-right Australian billionaire over Albertans who oppose mountain coal mining. Alberta's Regulator Met with Northback Before Reversal. Why? via @thetyee.ca thetyee.ca/News/2025/05...

“It argues that questioning would, in essence, be an indirect way for the government and AHS to get an early heads-up on what documents Mentzelopoulos has provided to the auditor general.” #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli edmontonjournal.com/news/politic...

Every single one is either by an LGBTQ+ author or has LGBTQ+ content cited as the reason for the challenge.

Montem: 1) dumped debris into Crowsnest Creek while installing a bridge. 2) In the process it had failed to install erosion & sediment controls at site. 3)dumped more material on a floodplain without proper drainage 4) excavated two borrow pits without provincial authorization on public lands.

Anyone surprised?

Must read here. A reality check for Albertans

And this is being dropped on doorsteps in Red Deer today.

So, a less long way to Tipperary?

One of them ran Jason Kenney's stalking horse "Kamikaze campaign" www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This was delivered to my house in Edmonton today. By a volunteer, not a postal worker. Expensive card stock paper.
