BREAKING: SCOTUS conservatives give DOGE access to Social Security records, overruling lower courts. All three Democratic appointees would reject the Trump administration’s request.

If a Democratic president cut off one of the red states dependent on federal funding, it would be a political scandal. But cutting off California -- the single biggest "donor state" in the nation, one that sends in to the fed'l gov't ~$80 billion more than it gets back -- is straight-up theft.

“I would like to cure brain cancer. I think that's not particularly controversial.” Be that as it may, the NIH terminated that scientist's grant. Here's a huge survey of the 2,500 grants that NIH has killed or delayed...so far. Gift link: nyti.ms/43Jz1yJ

You have now lived long enough to watch America’s paper of record do a uwu smol bean image rehab on a child pornographer. It’s used to be hard to imagine what could replace the NYT, but something must.

Let's talk about agnotology: a 🧵 "agnotology (formerly agnatology) is the study of deliberate, culturally induced ignorance or doubt." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnotol...

There are 1 million other things that drive me crazy about the world lately, but one of them is that gay history — which had *finally* begun to be incorporated into basic education, which is central to so many stories of art & politics — is now being treated as radioactive, like porn or propaganda

The Trump and Elon breakup would be pretty funny to watch if I didn't know how much is on the line here: 10 million people could lose Medicaid and 2 million kids could lose food assistance. Don't let this drama distract you from what matters.

“.. after wiping out entire offices, in some cases imperiling key services such as weather forecasting and the drug approval process.” 🤡 @washingtonpost.com www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

9 out of 10 agencies targeted by DOGE for layoffs are liberal-leaning. Every single proposed GOP budget increase goes to conservative agencies. They're not cutting fat—they're performing ideological surgery with a chainsaw.

Trump has been telling people he thinks Musk's behavior is linked to his drug use: www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06...

I'm just having a really negative reaction to people's reactions to Musk's claim that Trump is in the Epstein files. My reaction is: In 2016, one of his victims openly sued Trump and Epstein jointly claiming she was raped at the age of 13.

Remember: If unions didn’t matter, powerful corporations wouldn’t spend millions of dollars every year to stop workers from organizing. Keep up the fight.

Imagine the hell on earth for dems in blue areas with large federal workforces if the party decided to be chill with Musk lmao. Why is this stupid idea even being floated?

One after another access journalist is reporting a convo with Trump where Trump says Musk has a problem. None asked why Trump let him have unfettered access to the govt, and our data, for the last four months, then. And what he'll do to make sure Musk didn't do permanent damage.

Even if the Musk-Trump feud is permanent, he will have already done incalculable damage to federal programs, workers and civilians. But it's even worse than that—he's installed a framework and a logic that will *continue* to tear apart the federal government. Musk's job has already been automated.

“.. And, by the way, he’s a Republican.” @wsj.com www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

If you strip away the egos and shitposting, the Trump-Musk feud is really an argument over how comprehensively to screw over poor and working people—over how best to make our society a meaner, crueler, less equal, more savage place. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1962...

lol columbia

"can I finally say that Trump's tariffs are super stupid"

The fundamental way a lot of people engage with politics is picking a side and trying to win, which is understandable because it’s the way politics are modeled and how people are encouraged to engage. But it’s then easy to forget that politics is supposed to be about making life better for everyone

what sucks about "Abundance" discourse is that the movement is a trojan horse - a way to smuggle bad ideas about tech, anti-labor, crypto etc into Dem politics by wrapping them inside normal and fine ideas about housing, green energy, transit etc.

The Infowars founder declared bankruptcy after families sued him for defamation and won more than a billion dollars in damages, but Jones has yet to pay them a dime.

highly likely he’ll do it again if he wins. he might be doing it right now

And here’s what she said weeks ago to me:

This whole time they’ve been dividing folks in order to conquer. Now they’re dividing themselves. What is The Plan for the multiracial inclusive democracy we know is possible?? Cannot Charlie Brown-football this moment

Hit them on policy. Hit them on scandals. Hit them on who they hang out with. Carry huge signs of every dumbfuck thing they've ever said. Never let them know another day of peace.

And some say women are too emotional for positions of leadership 🙄

I've got a new piece out on the astounding abuse of power from Missouri's AG and GOP lawmakers right now, all to try to undo the abortion rights constitutional amendment voters approved months ago—and also, how this should be a reality check on the tactic of "putting abortion on the ballot":

Imagine if it were two women behaving like this.

Many of the federal workers being forced out by Trump are Black women who spent decades building a career of government service, only to see those careers shattered in a sudden purge. By @davidmcswane.bsky.social

In 2024, China's total renewable generation grew TWICE as much as it every had done before. It added 494TWh - that's the total electricity demand of Germany🤯

In 1936, FDR closed out his re-election campaign by bragging to a massive crowd at Madison Square Garden that “organized money” hated him “and I welcome their hatred.” He took 60% of the vote in a 523-8 electoral college landslide. FDR knew having the right enemies could be a useful thing.

It is extremely interesting

I like Democrats who DON'T think we should be friends with Nazis.

They’ll try to walk things back today but you can’t really unring “Trump is in the Epstein Files”

It’s the end of an era.
