Born on this day in 1947 in Carmel, Flintshire, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 - The Academy Award nominated actor Sir Jonathan Pryce. His films roles have been diverse in range - The Two Popes, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Game of Thrones, Very Annie Mary, The Rachel Papers, and much more.

Today marks the 160th anniversary of a pivotal event in the founding of the Welsh community in Patagonia 🇦🇷 On May 28, 1865, the ship Mimosa set sail from Liverpool, carrying 162 passengers from Wales. Their mission was to establish a settlement that would sustain the Welsh language and culture.

It’s Patagonia Day. The day when, in 1865, the Welsh settlers set sail in the good ship 'Mimosa' for Patagonia. Celebrate with the 2016 adaptation of the novel ‘Aberystwyth Mon Amour’ produced by Lighthouse Theatre, Swansea. It is now available on line for FREE! You can hear it here:

Born on May 21, 1841 in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, Welsh composer and musician Joseph Parry. He is best known as the composer of "Myfanwy" and the hymn tune "Aberystwyth". Parry was also the first Welshman to compose an opera; his composition, Blodwen, was the first opera in the Welsh language.
