Full steam ahead for new Rotherham railway station with £11m funding bid www.thestar.co.uk/news/transpo...

The fact that so little is made of the misogyny at the heart of the Rotherham scandal, and so much of the apparently overly politically correct fear of racism that famously gripped our town in the early 2000s, is always a telling part of the narrative.

On the subject of seeking justice for survivors of child sexual exploitation, as hundreds of cases across the country are being reconsidered the work here goes on: www.thestar.co.uk/news/courts/...

It doesn't seem great that we have an MP - albeit one estranged from Reform - who is now promoting explicit Powellite racism and hanging out with white nationalist accounts on X.

Some people in Leicestershire must be looking forward to the first cabinet meeting of their new council administration tomorrow. Hitting the ground running.

Much needed capital investment in schools and hospitals, NHS funding, a near doubling of the affordable homes budget, winter fuel largely restored, a big expansion of free school meals, £3 bus fare cap, and what appears a reasonable settlement for local govt. I’ll take that over the last lot, ta.

I don’t see why this would be controversial, Yorkshire folk? This would be a lovely week away yorkshirebylines.co.uk/region/six-o...

We crunched the numbers on Labour’s expanded free school meals policy today. Half of the children in the borough will be eligible. That’s a huge deal for family finances.

BREAKING: All pensioners with income of £35,000 or less will have winter fuel payment restored in full. New threshold means 7.5m pensioners who didn't get it last year now will. Paid to all and then clawed back from wealthiest via HMRC as revealed by @theguardian.com

She’s not started yet everyone. Don’t worry.

Sorry… what?

There is a lot going on in the world isn’t there? Apparently the guy who started the day as the Chairman of Reform UK doesn’t think people should vote for them anymore.

“If we don’t ensure children aren’t growing in poverty and disadvantage then what’s the point of being a rich country at all?”

Don’t really agree - but the issue of (ending?) HSF and a larger cohort of free school meals entitlement is going to need some consideration to avoid unintended consequences for low income families.

‘A game-changer for children and families. We hope this is a sign of what's to come in the autumn's child poverty strategy, with government taking more action to meet its manifesto commitment to reduce child poverty in the UK.’ - Our head of education policy Kate Anstey www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

🚨 NEW: Labour is lifting 100,000 children out of poverty by expanding access to free school meals. Alongside free breakfast clubs, cheaper uniform costs and government-funded childcare, Labour is putting money in parents’ pockets and giving children the best start in life.

The problem with this argument is that 100,000s of children become political collateral damage and condemned to the horrendous disadvantages of poverty.
