#QueerPrompts June 17: Summer holidays or traditions

I made palm trees out of cardboard tubes and green paper. I posted a tutorial to Instagram so you can make your own... ⛱️Summer Palm Tree Craft:🌴 www.instagram.com/p/DK9fFAfR4d...

#QueerPrompts June 16: Character hobbies 👱‍♂️ Nix likes to draw and make crafts, so he draws Max and makes him gifts. 👨🏽‍🦱 Max likes to rock climb and make music, though he's too self conscious to let Nix hear his songs.

#QueerPrompts June 16: Character hobbies

#QueerPrompts June 15: Father figure or anti-discrimination laws in story Nix has two fathers, the one he grew up knowing who jokes around and loves to bake and the one who he's biologically related to who is serious and loves planning. Both seem to love him, but are both his "real" father?

#QueerPrompts June 15: Father's Day & LGBTQ Employment Protections Anniversary: Father figure or anti-discrimination laws in story

#QueerPrompts June 14: Where do your characters feel safe? Nix always felt safe at home in his beach themed bedroom. That is, until he found out his parents are liars and "home" lost its meaning. After that, being in Max's arms feels safe. In fact, it feels like home. 💚

#QueerPrompts June 14: Where do your characters feel safe?

#QueerPrompts June 13: Free Friday or queer book(s) like yours I tweaked this prompt to be queer book series that have things in common with Gravity's Fire. Does that mean there will be a sequel? Well, I have... 🤐

#QueerPrompts June 13: Free Friday or queer book(s) like yours

#JuneWorldbuilders 12: What does the MC wear? Nix is always hot, so he exclusively wears shorts and tank tops. Because Max's favorite color is green, that means Nix ends up wearing green all the time to get his attention.

#QueerPrompts June 12: Pulse Remembrance Day: homophobic/transphobic event/character The most homophobic event in Gravity's Fire is a fight between Nix and his birth father over wanting Nix to find a girl and continue the family line even if he can never feel about her the way he does about Max.

#LGBTQWriteAThon June 11: Rep you'd like more of Homoromantic ace characters. I'd like to see more males falling in love slowly based on feelings and personality and without physical attraction or sex. While I'm not ace, I love slowburn romances and can often get bored with sex scenes.

#QueerPrompts June 11: Although Nix had his first crush on a boy at 5, it took him time (and advice from Lex) to figure out the label gay fit him. When he officially came out at 11, his dad baked him a rainbow cake in celebration. Max uses dating Nix as his way of coming out.

#JuneThrills 10: Tuesday Teaser: snippet share

#SFFChat June 10: Share an MC's major flaw(s)! Nix is impulsive, but running away is how he learns the truth about himself. He's clumsy, but that means Max gets to catch him. He breaks technology, but the reason why is how he can fight villains. Each flaw can be turned into something positive.

#LGBTQWriteAThon June 10: Why is the rep in your book important to you? I was raised to be ashamed of myself for not being "normal." I thought I had to be someone else to fall in love and get a happy ending. I want people to see not caricatures but people like them, to laugh and feel joy with them.

#ComJunity 10: How do you like to meet other writers? In posts/comments online where I debate what to say until I say nothing because I'm afraid everything I think of to say will be interpreted the wrong way and so it's better to not say anything. You know, how people normally meet and interact. 🤦🏼‍♂️

#QueerPrompts June 10 Gravity's Fire takes place in a variation of this world, so there's some prejudice, like Nix's biological father thinking it's a phase he'll grow out of or Andrew asking "who's the girl" in Nix and Max's relationship. But ignorance is quickly corrected by Nix or his friends.

#QueerPrompts June 10: Do your queer characters have to explain their queerness?

#ComJunity 9 Nix and Dylan. Nix is impulsive and a disaster and Dylan is a joker who can't keep a secret. Without Max to ground Nix or Zephyr to keep Dylan's mouth occupied, I can imagine the chaos they'd create together. It would be like the two horseman of the apocalypse. That's a thing, right?

#JuneThrills 9: Character often bewildered Nix. He finds out he's been lied to his whole life, meets his birth parents, learns his birth name, finds out about magic, learns he has the rarest kind of magic, meets the guy he's dreamed about all his life... It's understandable he'd be bewildered.

#Tropes101 June 9: A trope that puts you off a romance? Two people getting drunk and ending up in bed together (I don't see that as consensual) or two people who hate each other until they have sex. Basically, the sex being the catalyst to a relationship trope.

#QueerPrompts June 9 👱‍♂️ Nix knew his body doesn't work like everyone else's all his life, but he doesn't find out why until he meets his birth parents. 👨🏽‍🦱 Max has always known things act strangely around him, like figures moving or the house shaking, but he thinks it's a curse until he meets Gale.

#QueerPrompts June 9: When did your character(s) first realize they were different?

#LGBTQWriteAThon June 8: Line share - shine "You call me your personal sun, but you’ve always shined the brightest in my life." - Nix "practicing" confessing to Max

#Tropes101 June 8 Mutual pining. It's harder for me to get into stories where the characters don't like each other or are ignoring their feelings than ones where they both like each other and things like insecurities, miscommunication, or outside forces keep them apart.

#FantasyIndiesJune 8: If your MC drank a truth potion, what would they be afraid to reveal? Nix used to have no secrets, but now he has to pretend to be a certain kind of magic to be with Max and is afraid of confessing his feelings to Max because of how much a rejection would tear him apart.

#QueerPrompts June 8: Character(s) queer identity(ies) 👱‍♂️Nix is gay 👨🏽‍🦱Max is bi 👩🏿‍🦱Lex is pan 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦Lex's parents are gay 🧑🏽Tien is trans & lesbian 👦🏼Leif is trans & ace 👨🏿David is bicurious 🙎🏻‍♂️River is gay 👩🏽‍🦳Gale is lesbian 👨🏻Zephyr is bi 👨🏽‍🦰Dylan is gay 👧🏾Savannah is aro

#QueerWritersChat 5 My debut YA contemporary fantasy romcom 🌿Gravity's Fire🔥 is about a runaway teen who discovers magic is real when he meets the boy he's dreamed of all his life. 💚 It's up to half off all June for Pride: midnightmeadowpublishing.com/product/grav...

#QueerWritersChat 4 "I was always into girls since my very first crush on a girl I met at a beach when I was five. That’s how it’s supposed to be, a guy likes girls and gives his parents grandkids. But then I thought I was into guys too."

#QueerWritersChat 3 Nix doesn't question his sexuality, but Max does. Max believes he has a soulmate out there, one person meant for him. And, since he's always been pressured to find a girl and he's attracted to girls, he assumes his soulmate must be a girl. It's confusing that he also likes guys.

#QueerWritersChat 2 Nix ends up with Max because they're both each other's type, so it definitely plays a role that they're into guys. Nix confessing and being rejected by so many guys also makes him more wary. Though his father wants him to be with a girl to carry on their magical line.

#QueerWritersChat 1 🙋🏼‍♂️ Hi, I'm CJ, queer romantasy author and artist! I plan (hope??) to write a sequel to my debut novel Gravity's Fire and write short stories based on the characters. I also want to make some new art for the characters.
