Excellent column by Tom Friedman www.nytimes.com/2025/06/03/o...

Big discussion on Morning Joe this morning that Biden has most assuredly had prostate cancer for several years, given how advanced it now is. All the more scandalous and, for the country, ruinous that he ran for re-election and delivered the country to Trump. I am fucking angry.

If it were up to Alito and Thomas, we would already be neck-deep in a dictatorship

Coming from the WSJ, this is a devastating editorial. www.wsj.com/opinion/xi-j...

I'm such a history nerd, but I can't help thinking about Hitler, at his peak of power and hubris, choosing to invade Russia. Obviously not a proportionate analogy to what Trump is doing, but just an observation that arrogance tends to bring on its own destruction.

We can overlook a lot, apparently: people dragged off the streets and deported without due process; government departments decimated at a billionaire's whim; universities and law firms being strong-armed. But this will break through. People don't like their savings and livelihoods being fucked with.

Let’s stop paying Social Security for one month and see who screams. Those are the fraudsters. Hard as it is to believe, that really seems to be what our government is about to attempt.

Outstanding assessment of where we are at, from James Fallows. Where Do We Stand: A ‘Correlation of Forces’ Assessment. open.substack.com/pub/fallows/...

We now have the definitive image of the Musk Purge (from CPAC yesterday). World’s richest man gleefully taking a chainsaw to thousands of jobs of “probationary” employees, many of whom are young people just getting their start in science, in health, in the forest service, in their “dream jobs.”

Yup, it’s officially a sellout of Ukraine. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

Headspinning isn't an adequate word. More like a modern version of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

Trump and Putin are planning to dump Ukraine, in an epochal shattering of the post-WWII order. Sheer criminal madness.

Canary in the coal mine statement for sure

Just terribly wrong. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

Okay, I will admit to being excited about this, though decades of disappointment make me very cautious in my enthusiasm. The final documents in the JFK case have been withheld for 60+ years because they are either very embarrassing or very damning (or both).

Anything can happen and it usually does.

The eternal shame of the oligarchs. As someone said, what's the point of having fuck you money if you're afraid to say fuck you to the powerful?

Every day the rhyme of history seems clearer and clearer.

Of the tributes that will be etched in my memory over the next week: Morehouse Glee Club singing the Battle Hymn of the Republic at the Carter Center's remembrance of Jimmy Carter #ThankYouJimmyCarter

I'll confess that the orderly transition of government over the next two weeks feels just a bit galling. Not because I want it to be otherwise, but because the contrast with what happened four years ago will not be acknowledged by a single Republican member of Congress nor by the incoming president.

It just blows me away that this guy was Trump's first nominee for AG. What the hell.

Josh Marshall likes the Dylan movie and especially Timothée Chalamet’s performance. I cant wait to see it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/some-...

I say let the whole panoply of weirdos in. Let them fuck shit up. Let it all play out. The only way to learn is the hard way.

“You’ve probably grown in the last eight years,” [Bezos] said to DealBook’s Andrew Ross Sorkin. “[Trump] has, too.” I know this is just eyewash from a billionaire looking for favorable treatment from Trump, but I want to scream: What part of Jan. 6 did you not understand?

Wow. Here is one to brighten up your morning. The first images of the restored interior of Notre Dame cathedral. Breathtaking. In just five years France did it
