Popped into Trinity live after my last meeting of the day. Very pleased to see this back up and running.

One year on from the day Rishi Sunak called the General Election, who could have seen how the last 12 months would play out? The new govt came in with low expectations but managed to miss them. From winter fuel, PIP and NIC, it has been a bad start. We need so much better.

The future's bright. The future's orange.

Spoke at an opening session for UKREiiF, a major event. This was an opportunity to sell Hull to those in the room. I set out just what a brilliant place is and what it has to offer. We want to work with many in moving the city forward and this is part of that effort.

Potentially anyone's guess who will lead both the Conservatives and Labour into the next general election.

At today's full council I was confirmed as the leader of the council for the year ahead. This is an important year ahead for the city and the region and I look forward to playing my part in making sure the communities I serve get what they deserve.

I am going to play my part in the party's efforts at standing up to the Reform UK agenda. The sort of reform they want is not in the interests of the people I am elected to represent nor those of the country. Read more about the effort here - theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

Congratulations to Hull KR on booking another trip to Wembley for the Challenge Cup final 2025!

First big test for our new mayors and whether their priority is the region or Reform UK.

The 'A Mischief of Rats 2025' rats, in aid of the Daisy Appeal, are now in place. This weekend I went along to see two that I sponsored. Already there were visitors coming along to see them, which was great to see. #AmischiefOfRats

A message from me after today's election result.

This has been quite the campaign. This election is vitally important for the region. Right now, though, I want to say thank you to all those who are supporting me with their vote tomorrow. I can win and that would be a win for the people of the area.

@eddavey.libdems.org.uk hit the decks today. I was very impressed! Great to have Ed visit and introduce him to the team from Beats Bus. www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-ea...

Labour crisis as the city of John Prescott turns its back on Starmer buff.ly/Tw4AJPt Canvass returns suggest Labour could be a distant third to Reform and the Lib Dems in their former heartland of Hull and East Yorkshire @marisharay.bsky.social @libdemlocalgov.bsky.social @cllrmikeross.bsky.social

There have been so many different hustings as part of this election, all of them looking at a different issue, from climate, culture, business, young people or minority groups. A key part of the democratic process and I am pleased to have been able to have attended them all.

Enjoyed my election interview with Peter Levy last night on Look North. The momentum is with me in the campaign. The bookies have me in the lead.

We hope that lots of fellow #LibDems, especially @yorkshirelibdems.bsky.social, are going to donate time and/or money to our wonderful chief steward @cllrmikeross.bsky.social to get him over the line in Hull 🧡

Thank you @timfarron.bsky.social for joining us on the campaign trail yesterday. With postal votes landing on doormats, this is a crucial time and so it has been great to see the team working hard this week.

Definitely finding former Labour voters back us here in Hull and East Yorkshire!

This election has been much more about the individual candidates than any I have been involved in before. So, articles like this one are a good way for people to learn more about me and what I would do as mayor. yorkshirebylines.co.uk/region/mayor...

This has been a busy and fantastic week on the campaign with MPs, Peers and volunteers from right across the country coming to help the campaign to elect the first ever Lib Dem Metro Mayor - if you can help get in touch.

Yesterday I was at the opening of the International Martial Arts Seminar, being held in Hull for the first time. I was able to support making this happen, so pleased to be able to take some time out of the campaign to see it get underway.

7 percentage points between 1st and 4th in a national opinion poll.

Last week I took part in a roundtable discussion on the future of Rugby League, a sport that communities across the north feel proud of. I look forward to being part of further talks in the future, as we look to support the sport. Thanks to @salfordcouncil.bsky.social for organising.

Thanks Hannah for making the trip across

Today I am attending a roundtable on the future of Rugby League and the challenges the sport faces. Nicely timed with both Hull clubs sitting at the top of the table! The sport does face real challenges. Let me know what you think needs to be done to help the sport grow.

That's it! Now official. My nomination papers are in and I'm officially a candidate for the Hull and East Yorkshire mayoral election! I'm looking forward to the next 5 weeks and for all that will hopefully come on the other side. If you can help, get in touch.

As an administration, the Lib Dems in Hull were keen to support high streets across Hull. So the Community high Streets scheme is something we are very pleased to see come to fruition. It will work best when done with the local community.

Good to see local media coverage of my speech to Lib Dem conference.

Great to listen to @cllrmikeross.bsky.social, the Leader of Hull City Council at #LibDemConf this morning. Mike talked about how the Liberal Democrats are working hard across Hull and East Yorkshire, challenging Labour, standing up for local residents and clearing up the Conservatives mess.

Last week alongside @eddavey.libdems.org.uk I called for the polluters to pay. I hope that they are held accountable for this. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The PM was in Hull this week and he was asked to respond to not one but two issues I have raised, firstly on the need for action relating to the boat incident in North Sea and also on the previously promised HS2 money. www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-ea...

Hull hosted #CulturalTides2025 today. Fantastic opportunity to showcase the city's cultural offering. T did so with an international outlook, not least by having a Ukrainian culture minister as part of the line up. This was a deeply moving session for all present. We stand with Ukraine

Something is happening in Hull this weekend. Don't miss out. #colliderfest

Liberal Democrat Hull Council Leader, Cllr Mike Ross, has called on the Government to hold an emergency meeting in East Yorkshire and to set out a Rapid Response Plan following the events unfolding in the North Sea.

Enjoyed chatting with @johnpotterld.bsky.social and @hannahk-ld.bsky.social about May's mayoral election. Not long to go now.

Pleasure to attend a reception recognising the City of Hull and District Rugby League volunteers and sponsors this afternoon. I was asked to say a few words on what grassroots sports meant to me. I am a big believer in the benefit of sport, so pleased to be part of this event.

Budget full council. Lib Dem budget is working for the priorities of the residents of Hull. Yet again we are hearing how out of touch Labour are, criticising the hugely popular 'Love your neighbourhood' scheme that has made a difference in areas across the city.

A brilliant day celebrating Hull's cultural offering on the national stage.

Pleased to have backed this and look forward to hearing more from about the campaign soon. BBC News - Website aims to help young people eat healthier www.bbc.com/news/article...

Relief that there was no threat from the incident last night, but I am sure it was an alarming disruption for those involved. I would like to thank all those who responded, from the team at St Stephen's, emergency services, council teams and others. www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-ea...

Headed into BBC to do an interview for tonight's Look North with Peter Levy.

In Parliament today @tomgordonld.bsky.social questioned the Govt on funding for roads and infrastructure. The Govt admitted Hull and East Yorkshire will lose out on millions. This area has now been let down by both Labour and the Conservatives on this funding. Take a watch.

Visit today to see the Hull and East Yorkshire RSPCA branch. Thank you to Fred Owen and Matthew Wright for talking me through the work and challenges for the organisation across the region. Keen to see closer working between the council and the RSPCA going forward.
