About 15-20 yrs ago, a bunch of reviews (inc. 1 by me) made predictions about the future of genomics in conservation. 1 yr ago at ICISB, Robin Waples assessed which of those predictions had been fulfilled. Sam May & Sam Rosenbaum now led the effort to turn this into a review: doi.org/10.1111/mec....

I'm going to take solace in posting actual science is a simple form of resistance. This is another must read from Robin Waples. #PopGen #ConsGen onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Tired of spending countless hours thinking thoroughly about things? Stopping could help.

We’re deploying 106 receivers in the inner Oslofjord for the NMBU cod project with @oceantracking.bsky.social. This study tracks migration and movement shifts in two cod ecotypes and assessing habitat changes. Using Thelma and Innovation equipment, an open protocol is key to the project!

Wow. This is sooo good. Echoing @urbanevol.bsky.social this user’s manual for Ne should be required reading for popgen and conservation genetics folks. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

🚨 New paper published in... Nature 😱 I never thought that I would write these words, but here is a Nature-paper that I contributed to. We found global loss in genetic diversity. But conservation strategies may maintain or increase genetic diversity. Full paper here: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

How can we find out how fishers adapt their fishing strategies to a changing context? This is a key question if we want sustainable and resilient fishing. Using an interdisciplinary method, we dived into this with the specific case of the Bay of Biscay small pelagic fishery. doi.org/10.1093/ices...

In a new study in @icesmarine.bsky.social journal led by Serena Donadi, we show that herring is an underestimated piscivore and that the herring decline in the Baltic Sea may have contributed to the increase in three-spined stickleback: academic.oup.com/icesjms/adva...

A new #fishR post today showing newly modified functions in the #FSA package being used with #dplyr or #purrr to efficiently compute abundance (w/ removal/depletion data) or mortality (w/ catch-curve data) for multiple groups (e.g., species, area). #rstats fishr-core-team.github.io/fishR/blog/p...

Atlantic herring is one of the most abundant fishes in the world. In two new studies, we show that some herring in the Baltic Sea have become fish eaters. These piscivorous herring are genetically unique, grow fast, and play an important role in regulating stickleback populations.
