She is featured in at least half the school texts and kids readers. There are biographies of her: Afua Cooper's won a GG award. People should go to the library and do more independent reading instead of always blaming teachers.

As Charles and Camilla return to their natural habitats, I'm moved to post these thoughts on Canada and monarchy, published in Canada's History mag when Queen Elizabeth died. canadashistory.ca/explore/poli... #cdnpoli

Just a taste of what foreign occupation would feel like. Canada Libre.

The US ambassador is a trumpazoid menace, but when he implies that importing the king-for-a-day is a odd way to proclaim Canada's sovereign independence, he's not wrong, is he? tinyurl.com/wbaackz2

In a real parliament caucus would give the leader a mandate letter, not vice versa.

In Canada we do it a bit differently.

Some moments I think when all the newly acquired players on TFC learn to play together, they might start winning games. Like today!

Habemum paper acadiensis! The popo has Louisiana Cajun roots. Well, maybe. ( Not all Cajuns were Acadians.)

"Our domestic monarchy"!

Rye and ginger even more, no? Canada Dry of course.

Mostly a symbol of how we still look like England's happy little colony to much of the world.

Still totally English.

PM Carney makes his first decision and it's a complete disaster: inviting a foreign monarch to open our democratic Parliament. #cdnpoli

Is this the dumbest poll ever taken?

We base Canadian party leadership races on which campaign buys the most memberships. Then we are surprised when foreign (and other) agents say, hey, that's a good deal? #cdnpoli

Why we need a Canadian as head of state becomes more clear every day

The Dictionary of Canadian Biography now has up the biography of John Baker, "perhaps the last surviving Canadian slave," concluding a remarkable weekly series of enslavement biographies by Natasha Henry-Dixon. Worth the read! #cdnhist www.biographi.ca/en/bio/baker...

Looking forward to this one. Deets at: creativenonfictioncollective.ca/reconcilingt...

If you haven't read Sumption's 5 volume The Hundred Years War (800 pp each), it's just cosplay!

"How should the Canadian government approach the US?" As a potential threat: 38% (+25) As an enemy: 13% (+11) Cautiously: 24 (+1) As an ally: 15% (-27) On friendly terms: 8% (-9) Angus Reid / Mar 3, 2025 / n=2005 / Online (% Change With November 2024)

All across Canada the last drops are draining from bottles of treason juice. #cdnpoli

McCarthy Tétrault LLP has “paused” a much-heralded hiring program for Black and Indigenous law students in a move that some lawyers within the firm worry is the beginning of a wider effort to roll back diversity, equity and inclusion policies. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

Charles is British and should speak for Britain. In this crisis we need Canadians speaking for us.

One of my neighbours put this up on their lawn. Civic virtue signalling! (extremely complimentary)

How many American newspapers would run the front page headline from today's #torontostar: 'American betrayal hangs ominously over Zelenskyy'? In the body of the story, the word is 'treachery.' Well done Allan Woods and his editors.

Anything sooner than never would be too soon. Drawing in the British King would only confirm American delusions of Canada being colonized and in need of American "freedom." This is for Canadians to handle. #cdnpoli #maplecrown

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

From @cmedmoore.bsky.social: If you wonder how the hell historians will ever be able to examine and find what matters in the limitless ocean of digitized source material that will survive from the 21st century, well, he's been thinking about it. christophermoorehistory.blogspot.com/2025/02/book...

People explaining online what John A would have done in the present crisis would be more persuasive if they spelled his surname correctly. (M-a-c-small-d, folks) #cdnpoli

The Ford government in one sentence: "The Ford government wants sewer pipes that send raw waste into Lake Ontario to be diverted into a channel used by swimmers and rowers, the Star has learned." @torontostar-rss.bsky.social (9 Oct 2024)

Thank you for the mention, @cmedmoore.bsky.social! christophermoorehistory.blogspot.com/2025/01/hist... -- the William Burnie bio is here: www.biographi.ca/en/bio/burni...

Explaining to CNN the economic chaos that Donald Trump is about to unleash on his own people. We will never break or concede to an erratic thug who seems like Al Capone in his syphilitic phase trying to pull a shakedown. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-ZE...

In real functioning parliamentary democracies, it always happens that way. We are unique in having these long $multi-million vote buying orgies. #cdnpoli

Mark Carney is a leader who has the experience to lead through turbulent times, who understands the economy and the environment, and who can stand up for Canada. The stakes for our country could not be higher. If you agree, sign up to vote for @MarkJCarney. One day left! #LPC

Even in the 1770s, parliamentary views were more important than the king's. But I like the second recommendation a lot. Thanks, @spike2929.bsky.social
