And this is why I got forced out of Arisia. I'm not white nor BIPOC. I have an inkling of marginalization, but not the full experience. I tried to get them to go to other cons. Even a local, one-day Blerd con (very cheap) -- and they had excuses. Then IR'd me. strangehorizons.com/wordpress/no...

Musk has all the data you've ever given to the US government now, including all your social security information. It's been over 2 days of unrestricted access. I suggest you download and save what you can offline. Assume everything is compromised.

Look for The Cogitation Zone at the Natick farmer's market tomorrow 9-1 and in Melrose on Sunday 11-3 at Melrose memorial hall.

Keynote with @stonekettle.bsky.social at Smofcon 41

On the way to Cherry Hill for Philcon, mostly as an opportunity to see my niece and eat at the Silver Diner. Maybe I'll get lucky and sell some art. I'm on program and have 2 workshops: wire trees & alcohol inks.

Yay for @courtneymilan.com taking down the RWA. www.theguardian.com/books/articl...

Shouldn't the decaf Good Morning blend be a Good Evening blend?

About to explore a desert in a jeep with gale force winds roaring. For 6 hours. Whee!

The view from our hotel room is much better than what @scalzi.com usually gets, though there is a parking lot (and gas station).

Damnit, cat, I have a meeting to get to.

Last night at dinner my daughter asked us, "What motivates you?" (wrt work, mostly). Our first answer was money, the next, the satisfaction of a job well done, or an interesting challenge, and I added, "Giving back." So, what motivates you? What gets you to complete a task?

I agree the Q&A has gone soft amazingstories.com/2024/01/the-...

Looks like I'm stuck today.

New Rise of Technology trees on circuit boards. $35 each.

And yes, I would have called the local animal control officer. (End thread)

And honestly, I do not want to frequent a business that might condone such an action, whether the patron is a regular or not. I'll tolerate MAGAts as customers, but I won't tolerate animal cruelty. So, yeah, I was an asshole. And righteously so. (pt 6 thread)

I paid (overpaid, really) for my embarrassed friend's coffee, and we left just as the guy came back in. We ate elsewhere. Now it's possible he moved his car to the back parking lot; the car wasn't there when I went back an hour and a half later. But it certainly was no longer out front. (pt 5)

A man got up, obviously annoyed, and walked past me. As he passed, I said "It's illegal to leave a dog in a car." My friend was at the counter, and the wait staff was also visibly annoyed. One said, "He's a regular, you could have been nicer about it." (pt 4 thread)

Still, Not Okay to leave a dog for an hour. And I'll note there were outside tables available. So I walked into the diner, and yelled at the top of my lungs, "Excuse me, whoever has [car], you left your dog in your car, you have two minutes before I call the cops." (pt 3 thread)

Now, to be fair, it was a lovely morning: cool (temps upper 60sF/about 20C), light breeze, low humidity. And the windows were all open almost a foot. Fine if you're just running in to get takeout (the diner, which I had never been to, was the only thing open in the plaza). (pt 2 thread)

I was (deliberately) an asshole today. I was meeting a friend at a diner for breakfast. When I parked, I heard a dog whining and crying, and noticed a beagle two cars down. A guy leaving the diner and getting into his pickup said "He left his dog in his car." (Thread)
