Good morning, it’s Thursday June 26th 2025! Already? Crikey. You be careful out there among them English, John Book. (Out this month in 1963, just 62 yrs ago, Lois Lane #2 with its absolutely charming cover by Kurt Schaffenberger and Gaspar Saladino.)

Breakfast Special. From John Harrison’s New York 1967-77, which can be found from Cafe Royal Books.

So that was Wednesday June 25th 2025. Crikey. Another day done, another (almost) here. So it goes. (Released this very month in 1963, a mere 62 years ago, The Amazing Spider-Man #4, with its cover featuring The Sandman by Steve Ditko, Stan Lee, Stan Goldberg & Artie Simek.) And so to bed…

1972 RCA America promotional transfers starring Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders Of Mars, by artist - and longtime Bowie pal - George Underworld. (Which by the by underscore the canonical fact that Ziggy & The Starman are two different characters.)

The Main Man visiting San Diego Comic-Con, from 1993’s Lobo Convention Special #1, by the wonderfully talented creative team of Keith Giffen, Alan Grant, Kevin O'Neill & Todd Klein et al.

Why it’s the indisputably great Jimi Hendrix, from July 8th 1967’s Fabulous magazine.

I would like to believe that, before I lay out £20 for a book, someone has fact-checked the darn thing.

Nathan’s Hot Dogs, Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York, May 11th 1954, by Al Ravenna, LoC.

Why it’s Teen Hulk, screaming ‘Help Mommy!’ no less, a Marvel Productions animated project under development in late 1983 according to Comic Scene #33. You will be shocked! - nay, flabbergasted - to hear it never went any further.

By Helen Elna Hokinson, from March 21st 1936’s The New Yorker. It has made me smile. In its own gentle way, it feels very contemporary. Maybe it’s my ASD. I’ve long been bemused/frustrated by the distance between the given criteria for success & the less transparent motives of those who grant it.

Good morning, it’s Wednesday June 25th 2025! Already? Crikey. You be careful out there among them English, John Book. (Out this month in 1962, just 63 yrs ago, Journey Into Mystery #83 featuring the debut of The Mighty Thor, with its cover by Jack Kirby, Joe Sinnott, Stan Goldberg & Artie Simek.)

Fav Depeche Mode track, I hear it being asked? Despite the temptation offered by an extended version of Pleasure Little Treasure, it will simply have to be the masterpiece that’s Never Let Me Down Again.

So that was Tuesday June 24th 2025. Crikey. Another day done, another (almost) here. So it goes. This is the way. (Released this very month in 1962, a mere 63 years ago, Batman Annual #3, with its montage cover featuring the artwork of a considerable number of creators.) And so to bed…

‘Home On The Rocket Range’, featuring Jenny’s Junk - Used Spaceships, Second Hand Robots: Emsh’s cover of March 1960’s Galaxy #78. I can’t help but think ‘Jenny’s Junk’ would make for a fine Sci-Fi anthology series. Jenny as the host/narrator, with every piece of space rubbish telling a story.

May 1972 & IT magazine’s cover expresses the disappointment & betrayal many in the Underground feel about what they see as Marc Bolan ‘selling out’. T. Rex had once been one of the counter culture’s house bands. Now Bolan was off having hit singles & being rich, glittery & famous. (Good for him.)

Picked up a rather brittle but very readable copy of July 1st 1972’s Radio Times. Delighted to find an Eric Porter illustration on one of the pages. Fascinating to see it in its original published context.

Iron Man Three, by Paolo Rivera, from 2013. How fabulous.

Maintenance workers, Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol, 1986, by Andrew ‘Beezer’ Beese.

Good morning, it’s Tuesday June 24th 2025! Already? Crikey. You be careful out there among them English, John Book. (Out this month in 1961, just 64 yrs ago, Superman Annual #3, with its fabulous cover by Curt Swan, Stan Kaye & Ira Schnapp. Me, I’d be turning to the tale of The Lion Of Steel first.)

So that was Monday June 23rd 2025. Crikey. Another day done, another (almost) here. So it goes. This is the way. (Released this very month in 1960, a mere 65 years ago, G.I. Combat #83, with its remarkable cover by Jerry Grandenetti & Jack Adler.) And so to bed…

Dragon, by William Stout, 2004. I find it very hard to be convinced by depictions of dragons. I don’t know why. This completely and utterly convinces me.

On the wall when I was young, Jim Steranko’s F.O.O.M. membership poster from 1973. Heaven knows where I got it. I couldn’t afford to join the club.

Rain, 42nd Street, New York, 1964, by Burt Glinn.

Crikey but this shot of Batman & Robin leaping into the air above Gotham is very, very, very fine. (From the thoroughly enjoyable Batman & Robin: Year One #7 by Chris Samnee, Mark Waid, Matheus Lopes, and Clayton Cowes.)

A genuinely awesome 1978 fold-out Star Wars illustration by the great Noriyoshi Ohrai.

“Drink A Pint Of Blood A Day” UK movie poster for 1969’s ‘Taste The Blood Of Dracula’. With a top-notch tag line.

Good morning, it’s Monday June 23rd 2025! Already? Crikey. You be careful out there among them English, John Book. (Out this month in 1960, just 65 yrs ago, Batman #133, with its splendidly odd cover by Sheldon Moldoff & Ira Schnapp featuring the not-so Dark Knight, Robin, Bat-Mite, Ace & Batwoman.)

So that was Sunday June 22nd 2025. Crikey. Another day done, another (almost) here. So it goes. This is the way. (Dated this very day in 1978, a mere 47 years ago, 2000AD #74, with its horrortastic cover by Mike McMahon featuring Judge Dredd and the fearsome Satanus.) And so to bed…

A. M. Cay’s magnificent movie poster for 1934’s German sci-fi film ‘Der Herr Der Weit / The Master Of The World’.
