Any bias we currently have, AI will scale it. That's it. At BASELINE, Black applicants are denied mortgages at a rate 80% higher than white applicants. Outsourcing approvals to AI will WIDEN the gap, especially for Black women who get the worst deals in home loans. This is #TheDoubleTax.

Adding Dulles to the list of airports vacations go to die (top of the list: O'Hare). Will the 8 hour layover tomorrow be enough to make the flight? Let's find out!

Today's farm literacy moment! Ballerina Farm. Many have done thinkpieces about the women's lib of it all. But nobody had the stamina. the oomph. the juice to look at the business empire side of Ballerina Farm. So that's what we're doing today, and I would love to start with The Meats.

...who allows those SpaceX launches to occur? Do you know how fast those satellites become trash?

I need you all to see the hype video that this person made to sell their 1994 Geo Metro

American parents can deny their children vaccines, life saving blood transfusions on religious grounds and basically have ownership of their bodies until they reach 18 but the the fucking FBI is going after trans kids, who aren't getting surgery until adulthood anyway. It's a nonsense.

Sincerely, I think this is how everyone talks about the criminal system. Obama's "felons not families," the way prison sentences are eugenics. In the USA it's very easy to persuade lots of people that there are folks who are incorrigibly bad and it's not the people they know or understand.

Tracked down various discourses on the horror of "learnings" and also came across an educator's pet peeve: a steep learning curve means something that is quick to learn, not hard. So I have that thought waiting to pop out in the next engineering discussion around a new language/feature/framework.

I cannot coherently explain my rage when I see someone use the word "learnings".

I work at a company that has zero talent development (low level engineering is almost entirely outsourced) and it is incredibly bad to have zero talent pipeline. Can't wait to see it get worse because no one else will be training folks either.

My favorite American corollary I learned recently is that Broadway theaters employ more people than the entire American coal industry.

Reading through the Wikipedia entry (yes, yes, terrible) on third wave feminism and this quote from *Billboard* broke me:

Sitting through a large chunk of a meeting on how using CoPilot to create a new project was cool (sigh) but riddled with errors (of course). Me at the end: Why didn't you just use the framework's tool for auto-generating a project? It works perfectly every time.

LG washer/dryer: happy little sea shanty when they're done. LG microwave: electronics only make this noise if they're in distress.

Very disappointed to learn that today is Wednesday and not Thursday.

Past me was clever and made enough crab cakes we could have them for leftovers. I just wish I'd done a better job making them (too dry and didn't have any eggs for a binder, so uh, yeah, not great)

Me, immediately after showing my wife the Bastard's Tuesday post by @kennylogins.bsky.social : ugh, is today Tuesday? My wife: you *just* showed me Bastard's Tuesday Me: I've already accidentally left my phone in the fridge today. I'm not handling today well.

my friends from the Midwest: look this picture of our gorgeous landscape me, having grown up and always lived in mountainous western Washington: no. I don't like how you can see to the end of it friends: ...the end of what me, pointing at the horizon uneasily: it

We were hoping that this letter to @bsky.app could first be shared by a Gazan, but we were too worried that doing so would get their account deleted so we are sharing first. You can sign on to the letter about the unfair treatment of Gazans on Bluesky here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Pretty cool seeing the inevitable happen. Bootstrapping LLMs, as private for-profit products, off of the public commons inevitably comes at the expense of the commons itself. Not just the noise but in depriving the original sources of traffic, attention, and *communities* that made them possible.

if you haven't spent any time at high-end country clubs, this is genuinely what our american super-rich gentry eat most of the time. shit like this.

The US “exports” $43 billion of education from international students coming here. Compare that to ALL AGRICULTURE at $50 billion, or cars at $53 billion. That doesn’t count all the graduates who move here and contribute. Trump is single-handedly killing one of America’s largest industries.

honestly? the entire national media apparatus and so so many people give the GOP a pass because “they’re just like that.” but they’re freaks who live in fear of holding a town hall & making the president cranky & i think a lot more people could stand to call GOP reps daily & remind them they suck.

I love the federal comment forms that require first name / last name and zip code and then say "don't include PII if you don't want it in the federal register" and my name is unique enough there's one of me. There will always be one of me*. *With very few zip code exceptions.

The last time my daughter saw a Tom Cruise movie she referred to him as "a Tom Brady: desperately still trying to have a career" and I'm wondering what she'll say after tonight.

Takes five seconds, and might mean you can still get COVID boosters.

For all the talk about “hard truths” etc that propagate our discourse we really don’t discuss how coddling conspiracy theorists has made things worse for everyone.
