Leaving aside the merits of the Bill (which I appreciate is hard to do if you have strong views either way), I do think Liam’s work on it to this point shows what Parliament can do when it takes incredibly tough and sensitive issues seriously & actually works on the policy rather than the politics.

I’m one of those dodgy immigrants who came here on a spouse visa and got indefinite leave to remain after 12 months. The incalculable harm I have done to the UK includes dedicating my life to public service, educating thousands of British young people, and paying more tax than I’ll ever get back.

seems like a lot of pressure is being mounted on the UKgov to recognze palestine next month, Lebanese FM said directly to British parliament today that it should do so, and 70+ Labour MPs sent a letter this morning to Starmer urging the same. Comes after 14 Conservative MPs backed the idea last week

i do think it is a bit shady for politicians to say they support assisted dying "in principle, but not like this" when the purpose of the first reading vote is to agree with the purpose but not necessarily the implementation

Regardless of how this ends, Scotland just crossed an important milestone

Looking forward to this being cited by briefcases to defend their racism

This has all the hallmarkings of a scandal that runs on and on and on

Increasingly think my academic hot take on the British Empire is that by 1939 there is a large body of thought which can be summarised as "...why the hell are we doing this?" and no one can really deliver a concrete answer

For all we speak of his genie, Keir Starmer is and always has been, a very shit politician

I chose to study, live, work, raise a family, build a community of scientists on this Island. 🇬🇧 But destined to always be a ‘Stranger’.

>be starmer >win once in a generation gazillion seat majority >do nothing for a year

Thing is, which country will it be and why does it rhyme with the Breat Gritain

In my lifetime a Western country will copy the kefala system from Qatar and it'll be pitched as a bold progressive challenge to the far-right

I also honestly categorically disagree with the idea that the changes are "more moderate than the rhetoric." The 5 to 10 year rule change is Ruins Lives type stuff.

It's bleak how my Enoch Powell epigraph for Marriage Material is now just mainstream political discourse in Britain

The Prime Minister imitating Enoch Powell’s ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech is sickening. That speech fuelled decades of racism and division. Echoing it today is a disgrace. It adds to anti-migrant rhetoric that puts lives at risk. Shame on you, Keir Starmer.

"Conservatives have created this hostile environment.. we should welcome people wherever they come from.. the UK is better because of immigration.. Lab has been a bit scared of making the positive case for immigration.. we need to turn that round" The most duplicitous politician in my lifetime

There has never ever ever ever ever been an open border policy in the UK in your lifetime and if you think otherwise you are quite literally delusional.

Embarrassed and ashamed that I ever had anything to do with this party. May they lose every single seat they have

The number of immigrants a lot of people want is 0 and the way they measure this is by counting how many non-white faces they can see and foriegn accents they can hear in the nearest big city to them. Until Labour reckons with that, they will never please these ghouls

Migrants in the UK should collectively go on strike tbth.

How I will decide my vote at the next UK election

Disappointing yet unsurprising at the same time. The Scottish Labour Parliamentary group is already largely invisible. Now they propose removing one of the few MSPs to achieve any worthwhile legislative change
