it is absolutely true that lincoln tried not to get too far afield of public opinion on slavery, calibrating his positions and actions according to what he thought was the mainstream. but it is important to note that at no point did lincoln ever disavow or deny his *sincerely held antislavery views*

Lol. Also "you can afford to piss off" highly engaged voters sure is a prescription that is working well for say, Labour

Also a great sign that these people do not care about things normal Americans care about, like sports. Because if you watched any game featuring a team from a swing state last year you'd be pretty clued into the campaigns messaging

It's weird how, "people on social media were mean to me" is processed as, "The democratic party has rejected my sensible policy and political ideas." Don't think basedtrotsky2006 is part of the upper echelons of the Democratic party but could be wrong.

The real abundance agenda is finding rent free housing in someone's brain

If I were a person interested in getting more third way types elected, I would simply do that and not organize an open conference that generates images and sound bites that'll haunt my entire project in the future.

I watched large portions of this segment and at one point @mattyglesias.bsky.social threw up this slide, said Dems are "making bad press on this issue" and moved on. But the polling is wildly on Dem's side on this one! Opponents of what the Trump admin is doing with him outnumber supporters 2-1!

*Gnashes teeth, deep breath* Hail to Pitt

"CentristFest" off to a predictable start: —Condescending ("Politics" isn't changing people's minds, it's treating them like Unchangeable Rubes) —No conviction (if polls say people don't like something, why fight for it?) —Lies (Don't Say Gay bill actually polled *negatively*)

Matthew Yglesias identifying Matthew Yglesias's personal issues: school closures during covid, "paralysis on women's sports" and "candidates running on late-term abortions"

no it isn't

That Lutnick hearing was such a trainwreck, lol

do you know how bad it is to get cooked this hard by KENNEDY

You gotta decide what you want here

A theory that has been percolating in the back in my mind is that Trump II is just the Europeanization of the US and this is just another small data point for it

Success is pointing out to regular people that Trump is an unusually weak leader who is a mess of contradictions and is constantly going back on his promises. They don't care about policy, don't think about this in policy terms.
