I've just found out that the show "Murderbot" (based on Martha Wells' book series) has been translated into Russian... as "Killerbot". Both English words, but one has been borrowed into Russian a few decades ago - and the other hasn't #linguistics

Hello! This is the new account for Autism in Affinity Spaces project at Queen Mary London. Our linguistics project is examining how autistic young people communicate in online interest-based groups and how we can improve these experiences to build inclusive digital spaces

The last day of truly fantastic #ADDA25 was marred by getting my ERC Cog rejection, tipping me into the depth of impostor syndrome and feelings of total failure. Now that’s something no one posts on LinkedIn in the land of pink unicorn grant wins

Goodbye, Tilburg, and thank you to the organizers for a fantastic #ADDA5! Look at those happy panel organizers 😊 @coocho.bsky.social, @nounfraze.bsky.social & Dawn Archer

Amazing work by @nounfraze.bsky.social, Dawn Archer & Paul Archer on how children think about digital influencers and who influences them on- and offline #ADDA5

Our food influencer researchers have to get multimodal, there is just no way around it. Here’s Camilla Vasquez, Jihye Kim and Hieu Nguyen’s complex matrix of modes for the analysis of TikTok Food Influencers’ Multimodal Evaluation Practices #ADDA25

Great crowd so far for our #ADDA25 panel 1 Influencer Discourse: Navigating the Spectrum from Positive to Negative Impact

Not the kind of submitting you’d expect at a linguistic conference, either #ADDA25 Kateryna Pilyarchuk and Eva-Maria Graf presenting on tradwife identity in insta reels

A panel is not a panel without a manosphere talk. Take it away, @domini.bsky.social! #ADDA25

#ADDA25 Public response to beauty influencers’ “collabs” with the White House to spread COVID-related messaging l, by Hanna Limatius @languaging-crises.bsky.social: Joe Biden interviewed on vlogs. I cannot help but wonder if this kind of endorsement of a public messenger without any fiduciary 1/2

Day 2 of #ADDA5 is about to start! Join us for Panel 1 "Influencer Discourse: Navigating the Spectrum from Positive to Negative Impact" which runs across the full day! Organized with @coocho.bsky.social @nounfraze.bsky.social & Dawn Archer. #InfluencerDiscourse #DigitalDiscourseAnalysis

@coocho.bsky.social on discourses about influencers on BlueSky. Lots of negative discourse in her dataset from three different points in BlueSky's history of migration to the platform but 'corgi influencers are the best' 🐶

#ADDA25 Cecilia Lazzeretti presenting her meticulous multimodal analysis of the “Medical Medium” Anthony Williams video: unlike many “alternative” experts who draw on scientific discourse, he positions himself in contrast to medical professionals and aims for street cred

Obligatory title slide post for #ADDA5 😊 Looking forward to the digital discourse crowd, hosting a panel on influencer discourses with @coocho.bsky.social, @nounfraze.bsky.social & Dawn Archer, and the whole conference shebang 🤓

Btw, the whole project started with our conference on "Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Persuasive Language", which so far is the only event I've organized with an official conference trailer. I just checked &, amazingly, it's still available: vimeo.com/475452728 Ah, nostalgia! @coocho.bsky.social

In this episode we talk about language play in Sámi, multilingual reading, the 500+ year history of joiks, and "language showers" with Dr. Hanna-Máret Outakoski, a professor at the Sámi University of Applied Sciences in Kautokeino, Norway soundcloud.com/lingthusiasm...

Persuasion is finally here!

I bought a book without too much research based on the fact that it was about a gardening collective (sounds like fun!) called Birnam Wood (what a fun Macbeth reference!). And then the book turned out to be really well written, and then it got serious, and then it got really dark in the end. 1/2

The season is open 🛶
