"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants. Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."

Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab

The Dallas Mavericks GM must have the time stone and saw this was the only way.

The goal of biomedical research is not just to help and save those who are already seen as healthy, but to protect the vulnerable as their lives matter too.

Someone donated 10 grand. I’m sure they believe in just “merit” in hiring. www.cbsnews.com/amp/minnesot...

I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but the orcas now have two F/A-18 Hornets

🚨 AIMBE is calling on the biomedical research community to take a minute to send our 3 new advocacy letters urging Congress to: 1. Protect the STEM Training Pipeline (e.g., NIH MOSAIC, T32s, MARC, etc.) 2. Oppose Indirect Cost Caps 3. Support Research Funding in FY2026 aimbe.org/advocate/wri...

Ciara as doula: Let me see you 1, 2 breathe.

Bust (by 90 seconds)…the 400 feet of elevation kept me honest (pr was on flat, and it was wonderfully cold). Course record by a few minutes thought so I’ll take it.

A red light saber?

I am extremely pleased to share this feature articulating why I have lost my sanity lately. www.science.org/content/arti...

When you got all dressed up for a taper run…

The average American has three friends.

Well, maybe the children will have to live with two cures instead of 30 cures.

Justin will be here tomorrow to tell what it’s gonna be

The largest side effect to vaccines is adulthood.

The discussion of the new NIH initiative (driven by Secretary Kennedy) to examining the causes of the increased rate of autism (diagnosis) is giving me a case of severe dèjú vu (among other feelings) 1/n

Please highlight this story. ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago. kfor.com/news/local/w...

In December I accepted a position as a senior investigator at the NIH in the National Human Genome Research Institute & Center for Genomics and Data Science Research. Bringing the party in the desert to Maryland. We are hiring postdocs & postbacs! Please reach out :)

University leaders need to understand: they are holding INCREDIBLY good cards. It is so rare in today's polarized era to have the support of 70+ percent of the public against the Trump admiministration on anything. Universities have that—AND winning legal arguments.

Through biking, running, swimming, and rowing, I’ve traveled over 1000 miles so far this year. These miles were meditative, with friends, too hard to think, some combination of them. Grateful to be able to have these outlets and people to share them with. Self care is vital to make it.

This was my view during my morning swim. Gotta take these wins and good vibes where I can.

Today is the perfect date, all you need is a light jacket. Iykyk. 😂

A new evolving outrage… Damaging of the NIH Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network

NIH just cancelled the STEP-UP summer research program and they alerted students today. One of my students accepted their offer, turned down other REUs, and is now screwed for this summer.

NSURP CALLS FOR AID!!! We need mentors. uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

A huge influx currently into BlueSky right now. Hi all new people :)

PREP assigned study section! At least our hard work will be read. God only knows after that.

NSURP is looking for mentors for this summer! We had over 200 applications for about 10 spots. Please sign up if you are interested in being a mentor this year or in the future as it is helpful to show interest. Please share this! uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

So the nrsa mechanisms are expiring, but have a due date after the expiration date. Anyone got a clue on this one?

Can’t believe I blagged an exclusive interview with Katy Perry!

As a recipient of federal grants from #NIH (for now! 😭) that funds research in my lab, I'd like to sincerely thank American taxpayers on #TaxDay for investing in scientific research that lays the foundation for medical and technological innovation in this country and keeps us all safe and healthy

Double-plus ungood. We're going to have some thalidomide-level unforeseen side effects.

Trust, don’t verify? Scientists try as many avenues as possible before animal approaches. Use has to be justified as the best option, not just an option. This has become harder with science advances, which is good. However, currently this approach will lead to significantly more negative outcomes.

Humble brag :) #SciCom www.azpm.org/p/podcasts/2...
