Making a grilled cheese with the heel of the loaf feels like a transgression.

New dave’s picks art just dropped

Blown away to receive this gift from a friend who knows I like a Victorian outsider artist. An original sketch by Edmund Sullivan (he of Grateful Dead ‘Rose Skeleton’ fame) for a volume of Tennyson. I’ve seen the printed image lifted for bags and shirts, so am freaking out, holding the original art.

Imagine you've been granted vast songwriting talent. Sparkling pop sensibilities. You could get unfathomably rich from songs about puppy love on Saturday night. Aimee Mann chose violence. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArXL...

This is deranged. Jan. 6 defendants were repped by one of the best public defender offices in the U.S. They were more likely to be released pretrial & got comparatively light sentences. SCOTUS threw out a bunch of convictions, which almost never happens. They got gold-plated due process!

The Grateful Dead's first show under that name was on December 4, 1965, where San Jose, CA's city hall stands now. There's a campaign underway to raise funds for a plaque to mark the site for the band's 60th anniversary. www.mercurynews.com/2025/04/19/i...

hell yeah, brother

Ambassador Spock modeling the proper “fuck you, make me” response to intimidation tactics. Our current-day institutions could learn a lot from him.

For about a year, I worked with a retired British academic named Alasdair Spark to solve a mystery: where did the original photo from the end of The Shining come from, and where/when was it captured? Last week, we finally found the answer. www.instagram.com/p/DID43LBNPD...

added to this same folder as all the Meters, here is the lossless version of a niche-famous set from last decade Bill Frisell, James McNew, Jim Woodring Town Hall, Seattle WA 2014-Oct-05 This is the long Dark Star > Comes a Time improv best known from a YT upload drive.google.com/drive/folder...

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

fuck you make me

Some records are retro, some are ahead of their time. Jefferson Airplane's "Surrealistic Pillow" came out February 1, 1967. Post-"Blonde on Blonde", pre-"Sgt. Pepper", it's trippy utopian folk-rock was perfectly *of* it's time. Here's high-res album cover art. See next skeet for helpful links

Friend had a picture of Jim Morrison on her dorm-room door for months. Mentioned I liked it and she laughed. "You know that's a picture of Val Kilmer, right?"

Define your music in six artists: 1. Miles Davis 2. Tom Waits 3. Frank Sinatra 4. Grateful Dead 5. Gillian Welch 6. Sir Neville Marriner

In David Lynch's "Inland Empire," Laura Dern finds herself among a group of strangers. Are they sex workers? Justin Theroux's ex's? Aspects of Dern's personality?

Irrationally happy to have this. Won Arrow Video's 4k UHD release of Withnail and I (1987) in an eBay auction. Comes with essays and special features that won't be on the upcoming Criterion release. All special features on the 4K disc, so I won't need a region-free player to watch them.

The most popular review of David Lynch's Inland Empire (2006) on Letterboxd is a five-star rating and a question mark. #FilmSky 🎬 📽️
