Maybe we can get some of the same luck from earlier for Plevna, KS 🤞

Going to need some luck for the people of Greensburg, KS, tonight.

Today's weather rocks and I'm not afraid to say it.

Via @stormchasertang.bsky.social on Twitter… Gateway Arch webcam captured this tornado as it moved over the west suburbs of St. Louis

By all indications, there are going to be some damaged parts of the St. Louis metro.

May 15, 1968 wasn't the only remarkable May 15 in Iowa's weather history. This week's Weather Rewind covers the F3 that struck Washington, Iowa and other rural areas on May 15, 1998. Yes, it's the most famous moment NewsCopter9 ever had: www.kcrg.com/video/2025/0...

May 15th, 1968: 39 tornadoes touched down in 10 states. Northern Iowa bore the brunt of two F5s that tore through Charles City and Oelwein, leveling numerous structures. To the south, an F4 impacted Jonesboro, Arkansas. In total, 72 people were killed, and 1200+ were injured.

An Onion classic.

It's that time of year again.

This event was this week's Weather Rewind. Pretty interesting one due to the localized nature of it. One of those examples of what can happen when one storm can break the cap on a very favorable atmosphere: www.kcrg.com/video/2025/0...

Truly the good stuff

Nice evening tonight.

Bought a pack of 1991-1992 Fleer NBA cards today, 2 of the 14 cards were MJ. I'm sure I'm now a millionaire.

Steady as she goes from SPC for the first cut at today's severe weather threat. Seems proper. Floor remains very low (cap holds and no storms) to very high (damaging supercell storm[s] with strong tornado potential). Evening models present both, tho hi-res ones generally keep it much quieter.

Shrinking back the moderate risk to areas north of Highway 20 makes a lot of sense in Iowa. Tomorrow's severe weather threat is not the clearest thing around here. It really will likely end up being an all-or-nothing affair.

Beautiful afternoon in Iowa City and a dominant performance by the Hawkeyes. Pretty fun team to watch!

Not that it matters much, but the only other Day 3 SPC moderate risks including eastern Iowa turned out to be underperformers. The last one was, like, 14 years ago, and outlook busts are less common. But just a fun fact.

#WPC issues MPD 150 concerning HEAVY RAINFALL...FLASH FLOODING LIKELY: MO INTO EASTERN IA AND FAR WESTERN IL Link

DVN issues Tornado Watch for Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, Washington [IA] and Hancock, Henderson, Henry, McDonough, Mercer, Rock Island, Warren [IL] and Clark, Scotland [MO] till Apr 20, 11:00 PM CDT Link

This exact weather (cloudy, 70 temp, 62 dew point, little wind) could stick around for a while and I'd be good with it.

Tornado Emergency for Essex, IA. Dangerous looking on radar and chasers can see it.

This week's Weather Rewind looks back at the April 13, 2006 F2 tornado that moved across Iowa City, destroying several buildings and damaging many others. Nobody was killed in this tornado, but it left its mark on the city (featuring archival @hinklej.bsky.social): www.kcrg.com/video/2025/0...

ok but where'd his putter go? it disappears into the sky like Prince's guitar

When golf is good, it's REALLY good. Some of the best sports can offer.

A little busy yesterday, so I forgot to post this on the date: This week's Weather Rewind was on the April 11, 2001 tornado outbreak in Iowa. Until last year, it was the largest supercell tornado outbreak on record in the state. Notable was the killer twister in Agency: www.kcrg.com/video/2025/0...

I had the Dr. Pepper Peeps today. They weren't that bad, kind of shockingly? It was a mild flavor, and kind of complemented the vaguely sugary taste of a Peep.

Yesterday, GOES-19 became operational and took over for GOES-16 as GOES-East. As a farewell, here are a few of the most impressive and interesting views that GOES-16 provided over the last 7 years... The moon’s shadow passes over North America during the Great American Eclipse in August 2017.

April 3-4th, 1974: A “Super-Outbreak” of tornadoes ravaged the Midwest and the eastern U.S. Severe thunderstorms spawned 148 tornadoes from Alabama to Michigan, most occurring between 1 PM (CST) on the 3rd and 1 AM on the 4th. The tornadoes killed 315 people and injured 5300 others.

That’s a lot of supercells.

Tonight's Weather Rewind only looked back two years to March 31, 2023, when one of the largest 24-hour outbreaks of tornadoes in U.S. history took place. The strongest tornado in southeast Iowa since the 1990s was the most powerful of the outbreak: www.kcrg.com/video/2025/0...

Me, yelling in bed: "WHAT A PLAY!"
