Today's newsletter is free! Santana Pants, support for Simon, Sactown's crappy mound, the Pope, the "Splash Cycle, the history of baseball's antitrust exemption, "impressive stuff," freedom, the Tylers, and a bachelors in LGBTQ. www.cupofcoffeenews.com/cup-of-coffe...

The best part about a WFAN guy getting mad about the Dodgers being overexposed is that one could almost certainly find him doing the "they hate us because they ain't us" thing back when, for like a decade, every single story in baseball was about the Yankees. awfulannouncing.com/mlb/evan-rob...

I've written two items for tomorrow's newsletter already and both are about how, upon reading the news, the idea of the sweet release of death does not sound particularly terrible, at least theoretically speaking. Things are going great.

The world has been so horrifying that I never once thought that I could be shocked or repulsed any more than I already was, but then I woke up this morning to find people speculating that Musk, Stephen Miller, and his wife are a broken polycule and she's now leaving him for Musk.

One of the best ads I keep getting lately are the ones where they show middle aged guys who say "my wife told me not to wear old man shorts anymore" followed by a quick cut of the guy throwing away shorts that an old man might wear and replacing them with other shorts an old man might wear.

Today's Axios local post for Columbus notes that in 1911, "Police fined a Ross County man $5 for swearing on a passenger train." That's crazy! A passenger train in Ohio?

Today's newsletter is out! And it's Free Thursday! Inside: Santana Pants, support for Simon, Sactown's crappy mound, the Pope, the "Splash Cycle, baseball's antitrust exemption anniversary,"impressive stuff," freedom, the Tylers, and a bachelors in LGBTQ www.cupofcoffeenews.com/cup-of-coffe...

It's uncanny really

Who is “every single woman in every neighborhood I grew up in in Flint, Michigan and Parkersburg and Beckley, West Virginia from 1973-1990”, Ken bsky.app/profile/titt...

Happy 103rd Birthday🎂to #MLB's antitrust exemption 5/29/1922 the U S Supreme Court in "Federal Baseball" gave MLB the gift🎁 that keeps on giving @SCOTUSblog.bsky.social Read @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social 2019 essay explaining the story #BaseballandtheLaw 50-53 www.nbcsports.com/mlb/news/hap...

I was unaware that you can get a postgraduate degree in LGBTQ. Maybe I've misinterpreted what people meant when they told me about how they experimented in college? bsky.app/profile/atru...

Two active players have done two. Joc Pederson hasn't hit the Chase Field Pool yet, Paul Goldschmidt hasn't hit the KC fountains. The Rangers play in Arizona September 1-3, the Yankees play in Kansas City June 10-12. So here's hoping! bsky.app/profile/adam...

I don't have sharp opinions about speed/red light cameras but today Andrew Ginther, who was pretty credibly implicated in a bribery scheme in which a company was awarded the right to install red light cameras when Ginther was on Columbus City Council, announced his run for a fourth term as mayor.

Given that I just wrote up an item about this for tomorrow's newsletter like 25 minutes ago makes me think that I need to change things up a bit. I'm becoming too predictable. Friday's newsletter will contain recipes and poetry. bsky.app/profile/bcho...

Is this my photo roll or a dang baseball game?

Today's newsletter: A walkoff salami, another Ohtani blast, Roger Clemens catching deserved strays, rowdy Wrigleyville, Trump targets sports owners, the Mafia State, corporate cowardliness, and Being Known. www.cupofcoffeenews.com/cup-of-coffe...

Do you think Liam Neeson and Ralph Feinnes talked about filming "Schindler's List" while on the set of the "Clash of the Titans"remake or do you think the circumstances were too depressing for them to do that?

In today's newsletter: when it comes to sports owners and Donald Trump, I say: let them fight. www.cupofcoffeenews.com/cup-of-coffe...

I think a lot about what post-Trump justice and reconstruction might look like. It changes frequently given how much changes in the moment. The only real constant of it is that every version of it features Stephen Miller getting dragged through the streets in chains. bsky.app/profile/bcfi...

I was told that Gary Cohen shouted me out during the Mets game last night. Which is cool, but my readers and I figured out this morning that he seems to have mistaken something I said for this from @sammillerbb.bsky.social, about first-pitch swinging. pebblehunting.substack.com/p/first-pitc...

Substack’s plan is to accumulate as many media creators and their audiences as they can and then they’re going to sell it to the highest paying right winger. They already entertained an offer from Musk. That’s why we want you to leave!

I log off late afternoon/early evening most days and get this sorta nice feeling of being able to breathe again. And then I log on each morning and read about the myriad ways my country is being maliciously gutted by the worst people alive. Neither engaging with that or ignoring it is sustainable.

Glad we’re defunding actual science while handing money to a Nazi grifter who can’t replicate technology from the Eisenhower administration
