One of the things I love about just letting a garden space grow is the surprise. Last year, a heather just randomly appeared. This year, it's all those Oxeye daisies. It just feels alive. I see bugs. You can hear crickets. Much nicer than mowing the thing to dull grass oblivion every week.

Will be tidying (a bit) some of the front garden. I did the same last year and it helped other things to thrive. I wish our Oxeye daisies were a bit more resilient, but I'll take solace in us having 5x as many as last year. And no neighbour has yet attacked our garden with a scythe, so that's good.

Column! Hands-on with iPadOS 26: has Apple finally fixed iPad windows and multitasking? With possible apologies to Ian Betteridge regarding the title challenging his law. https://www.stuff.tv/features/i-got-hands-on-with-the-next-gen-ipad-software-has-apple-finally-fixed-ipad-multitasking/

"You want to know the ironic thing? I wrote my son's obituary using ChatGPT," Mr. Taylor said. One of the most sad and chilling lines in a piece that isn't exactly short on such things https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/13/technology/chatgpt-ai-chatbots-conspiracies.html

Great timing by the App Store, what with that NYT piece detailing how ChatGPT basically sent a guy trying to sort his life out mad.

This. But also: I bet most Brits aren’t even aware abortion needs to be decriminalised in most of the UK. Current law in part dates back to the 1600s. There’s a good overview of what’s really going on here: bills.parliament.uk/publications....

Lightning strikes near me right now. It’s like trying to go to sleep in the middle of a nightclub.

Today’s big, scary banking warnings: 1. Using the Argos website. Because WHAT IF THIS IS A FAKE ARGOS WEBSITE AND ALL YOUR MONEY GOES AWAY? 2. Using my banking app to switching some money from one of my bank accounts to another, with the same bank, because WHAT IF THIS IS A FAKE ETC ETC ETC

I just wrote about my favourite new interface change in the iOS 26/iPadOS 26 dev betas. And, no, it’s not iPad windowing (which is a close second). The quiet exit of the Home indicator in iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 reverttosaved.com/2025/06/13/t...

If you - or someone you know - needs a confidential chat about a comedian / author in the headlines, I’m here. It’s been a privilege to be trusted by so many people so far and I’ve never stopped working on this. Every story counts.

Ironic that Sega called this group of mobile games ‘Sega Forever’ now they’re all being axed. In particular, it’ll be a pity to see Crazy Taxi, the Sonic games, and SMB: Sakura go. The 16-bit stuff, less so. www.reddit.com/r/AppHookup/...

How the Daily Mail responded to Liz Truss' economy-crashing tax cuts for the wealthiest, vs how they responded to Rachel Reeves spending a few per cent more on hospitals

Another Bluesky is doomed piece, saying: - People drop after posts don’t take off (true, but Twitter was the same – people forget growth takes time) - Bluesky can’t take a joke (erm…) - Fewer fun viral posts (prob true but compared to Tw not X) However, real issue is… the world has changed.

Really striking new study from van Westen and Baatsen and a class visualisation tool to go with it. This study looks at a future where the AMOC has collapsed. Temperatures hitting -22ºC in Dublin in the winter is pretty stark. Hearing these numbers can be shocking and worrying. amocscenarios.org

It is extremely funny to me that London has ended up in a position where you can get great signal on large parts of the underground and absolutely nothing above it.

If anyone needs a title for a romantasy about someone who shags dragons, the name of this dinosaur should do it: The Dragon Prince

“We do not have any plans for bringing a summary feature to the wikis without editor involvement.” Well, they got there in the end. But here’s a thought: why not just have humans also write the summaries?

Pity Coons was cut off in his point about per-capita Danish military. Although Hegseth is probably so dumb he wouldn’t understand what per-capita actually means.
