Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Excited for Vera Rubin. ✨

Astronomers have created a galactic masterpiece! Using our VLT, they observed the Sculptor Galaxy in thousands of colours simultaneously 🌈 The more shades of colour there are in an image of a galaxy, the more we can learn about its inner workings. Read more: www.eso.org/public/news/... 🔭 🧪 ☄️

Excuse my crude words but JD Vance had the gall to join BlueSky and want to have "common sense" discussions. GTFO, you MAGA maggot.

Posting this paper here as a save for later reading. arxiv.org/pdf/2506.08872

My previous background in humanities helped me learn further in my current STEM studies. I consider the two disciplines, arts/humanities and STEM as the yin and yang in knowledge. You need both in order to get a complete picture of the world around you.

Again I stand by what I said. "I can't believe I even have to talk about these people. That's how ridiculous it s." www.rollingstone.com/culture/cult...

youtu.be/uSMGENDH_QI?... Me love some JWST documentary to replenish my weary soul.

I consider pixel peeping on JWST photos as a form of therapy, especially the current affairs are so depressing and tiring AF. Image credits: esawebb.org/images/potm2...

I am glad that I have made the decision to kick out Facebook and Reddit off my phone due to excessive use. Its been months and I feel better. I have made this self-rule that if an app continuously makes me check my phone for some reason, I will have to kick it out.

If we continue to accumulate only power and not wisdom, we will surely destroy ourselves... If we become even slightly more violent, shortsighted, ignorant, and selfish than we are now, almost certainly we will have no future. - Carl Sagan

Would love to explore this dataset but its humongous. My poor SSD couldn't cope at the moment (course, I still have my games installed. LOL) www.theregister.com/2025/06/09/j...

Ew.

"We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back." ~ Carl Sagan

Books? Free download and read? In this economy? YES, PLEASE!

I honestly wished that 5th grader me would have sent a letter to Carl Sagan. I would have asked so many questions. We miss you dearly, Carl.

Saving this as a future read.

I was lucky enough to see an advance copy of this. If you've ever read post-apocalyptic fiction and wondered what'd happen if things truly fell apart, Lizzie Wade is here to tell you what archaeology knows about collapse, which is a) quite a bit, and b) quite different from what Jared Diamond said.
