Black person jaywalking: “throw them under the jail” White assassin: “I mean, surely we’ve all belonged to a religious cult that thinks leftists should die”

This woman works on a farm that's being raided by ICE. Her fear is palpable. She just begs people who see her post to tell others what is happening so maybe she can find her kids if they are also taken. This is inhumane and cruel, especially without due process.

I did an event in DC & there was a party for donors etc after. Was talking to 2 ppl & I said "Things are so bad." They said "No this is how it is. Things swing one way, then another. It's normal." That's when I realized why Dems are toothless. They have no idea what this is. Frogs boiling in water.

The Minnesota shooter apparently used data broker websites to find the home addresses of the people he shot and murdered. Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again. Their inaction is deadly.

#NoKingsDay in conservative Lee County, NC. Veterans, army brats, grandmothers, moms and spouses, all chanting “ #NoKings!” www.instagram.com/p/DK6LjlstzW...

Just finished covering #NoKings in Pittsboro, NC — next stop: Sanford, in Lee County. Lot of amazing signs and interviews; story on both to come later! #NoKingsNC #freelance #localjournalism

Based on some quick math, this alone could fund the NSF Plant Genome Research Program for ~4 years; the NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biology, which was totally axed in the NSF budget request, for ~9 years; and ~ half the total NSF GRFP budget

The current unrest in Los Angeles is a lot different from the last time a U.S. president called out the National Guard to respond to violence on the streets.

Protest reporting isn’t taught it’s learned and all these legacy media anchors on the ground are taking more away than what they’re giving to the situation. Narrative control is key to the perception of power and it’s rarely captured by desk correspondents. IMO.

The conditions that have led to what’s happening in the US today exist in democracies around the world. They are an inevitable outcome of our collective failure to adapt to fundamental changes in the information ecosystem on which our democracies were originally built.

A new study has found that by 2020 the average ocean condition worldwide was already very close to – and in some regions beyond – the planetary boundary for ocean acidification. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Reminder. Also, from a political standpoint, Democrats should be rushing to introduce legislation to abolish ICE. ICE is incredibly unpopular with their base, and regardless of what you think of these think pieces, we're seeing Republicans and conservative voters openly critique ICE/their actions.

It is important to recognize that a homophobic bigot decided to take this man’s life. This talent is gone because of unjustified and irrational hatred. Rest In Peace, Jonathan, and know your legacy is carried with love. May the world change for the better, with peace for all.

When I interviewed KKK leaders in Arkansas, this is what they said too. “We don’t hate anyone. We just love our own people.” Then they burned a cross.

The Trump administration will define “terrorism” as expansively as it can to carry out its censorship agenda. Just ask Rümeysa Öztürk and Mahmoud Khalil. Let’s not hand the president more opportunities to abuse his power.

As the country’s oldest university takes on the president, Black students and Black professors said they carry an emotional toll.

hear me out what if we *neither* unconstitutionally accepted jets from a foreign nation *nor* kept throwing the jets we already have in the ocean?

In connection with a @knightcolumbia.org project on "Federal Funding and the First Amendment," we'll be publishing a series of posts on this topic from legal scholars and litigators. Here's the first one, from @dorfonlaw.bsky.social. knightcolumbia.org/blog/conditi...

Pope Leo XIV called for the release of imprisoned journalists and affirmed the “precious gift of free speech and the press” in an audience with some of the 6,000 journalists who descended on Rome to cover his election as the first American pontiff.

this guy is out here proudly being a eugenicist freak while people at mainstream and "respectable publications" make excuses for him or even muse about whether he has a "few good points"

So, I wrote up my "bookmark this response" to the "it doesn't matter" folks. My response: It does matter. Tonight, at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/defending-...

They know people will work. But they know basic income means people will be less inclined to put up with workplace abuse and most workplaces are abusive.
