Fun fact the Ponte 25 de Abril in Lisbon is named after the day when revolution finally toppled a regime that lasted from 1933 to 1974 Before that it was named after the dictator Here, have a bridge:

My political opinion is we should nuke Palantir from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

This pretty much looks like the citizen video of ICE arrests I’ve been seeing over the last week except for the Republican congressman, but insert Kristi Noem on a ride-along and, well, yeah

I might be ok with the government going to war against business schools specifically after this

We’re just a hostage situation in a trenchcoat pretending to be a country

Masked government agents violently "arresting" prominent Democrats is where we're at now. Important to read press from other countries now because they mention stuff like: "immigration enforcement officers do not have authority to arrest U.S. citizens." How many US newspapers mention that?

You love to see it

"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

The claims that McIver, Padilla, and Lander were committing assault should make you question every other time LEOs claim assault or resisting arrest, if you weren’t already.

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

I’m getting real close to this myself

This is actually kind of interesting, and all of these hypothetical jobs are training needs that I have been constantly yapping about in faculty meetings about AI. Bioinformaticians already swim in a sea of tools that we often haven’t developed ourselves, but need to understand and interpret.

Maybe they ought to guard regular people’s information too instead of selling our voter registration to data brokers

I have Optery and there are some data broker sites that simply will not remove me no matter how much they escalate. One of them is the voter records one that 404 Media wrote about a few months ago.

They can also fire physicians based on marital status Wait til that extends to all of us

Anime with butterfly: is this waste, fraud and abuse?

I am a full grown PhD, with a solid base of liberal arts education and years of writing experience. A senior administrator just responded to my email asking “should I share this information with the faculty” with a short tutorial on how to use Gemini to write an email. So totally cooked.

Are there laws or guidelines against selective enforcement of policies, e.g. focusing immigration sweeps in cities? Honestly curious. Asking for a friendly country.

IF we get out of this it better not just get swept back under the rug or slow-walked like Jan 6. An honor system only works when enough of the electeds to make up a supermajority have honor. Accountability must follow.

It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.
