PSA As it's International Day of the Seafarer I feel it's only polite to note that I accept thanks and appreciation in the form of real ale, pay rises, and cats. Additionally, given the heat, those ice lollies with ice cream in the middle and red (strawberry?) coating will also be accepted.

We have a Henry hoover on the bridge. It lives in the radio room. On Friday, there were two Henry hoovers in there. Today we took on stores, and a new Henry hoover has arrived for the bridge... They're up to something....

So, I don't want to alarm anyone, but there's this really relaxing ASMR vid of this waterfall in Alaska streaming live right now - www.youtube.com/live/73-Eekd...

Every time I spend time in London in uniform, someone will stop me and ask for directions. This is sub-optimal, I usually have less clue than they do. Almost made it today, but as I left the tube station on the way back to the hotel... Boom! "Excuse me..." Ah well.

There's been an accident on the railway north of here. Half the train tracking sites say my train is cancelled, half say it's a minute late. Lets see what the departure boards at the station say shall we!

#proofofcat I am not allowed to sit on the settee. It is occupied.

The man sat opposite me on the train home has a Greggs'. I do not have a Greggs'. Surely this is illegal?

Spent the day horrifying people discussing UK sealift and strategic shipping with basic stats on British seafarer retention. Very useful discussions, but I think I opened a few eyes.

On the train down to London to roleplay as a competent and professional adult for the day. Also, only one clue left on the crossword. If I turn up to the event covered in blood, ink, and paper fragments, then know that 5a remained elusive and I tried to rage flip the table on the train

Harrogate is lovely, but don't go on a Monday, many things are closed.

Spent the evening playing the X-Com boardgame. We nearly lost in the tutorial first time, then had a very solid run and beat the game in run 2. I've only played as Ops before, but went Science this time, with me and the Squad Leader doing a roaring trade in alien corpses for fun toys.

Naval Historians of Bluesky! A good friend has found details of their grandad's naval service (50s to 80s). Ship names, but not deployments. He wants to work out what that means for where he went and what he did. Any advice for where to hunt the appropriate Admiralty records much appreciated.

For those still working on their responses to the EHRC consultation, here's some more guidance

Last five days!

My sleep cycle is at the 'painfully tired but can't sleep' stage of fucked. The cat has abandoned me. Traitor-brain keeps noting how everyone's lives carry on just fine while I'm away at sea. And worst of all, Greggs isn't open yet for a bacon bap. Fuck Mondays.

If anyone happens to know a maritime archeologist I’d love to ask them some questions for game development research, it’s a rare field but may as well ask 👀 #TTRPG

We’re running a free Name Change workshop soon. Come along to find out how to change your name, how to handle common problems with name changes, and how to update all the different organisations that need to know about your new name. The workshop is on Monday 7th July at 18:30, via Zoom.

On a more serious note. The consultation on the proposed EHRC Code of Practice is out, and we have until 30th June to ensure it's not just TERFs' voices that are heard. Consultation - www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/ehrc-code-... Guidence - sandraduffy.blog/2025/05/21/r...

Nerds of Bluesky My laptop is ancient and incapable of finding my ship's wifi (it can find hotels etc). We get our annual bonus this paycheck, so I have a few hundred quid I can spend on a replacement. Light(ish) but not fragile appreciated. Anyone got brands to avoid / recommend?

Trying to get back into a normal sleep cycle after a trip on nights (2100-0600). I've been awake for over 5 hours, but there's a cat asleep against my leg, so I guess I'm not actually getting up any time soon.

Neighbour wants to come over for dinner apparently.

How do they rise up?
