We have an open rolling advert for QEC researchers at Riverlane. And now also have a single post to fill for an (error-corrected) algorithms researcher apply.workable.com/riverlane/j/...

The chronic diseases RFK's talking about are actually signs of progress, perversely enough. They range from physical issues like diabetes to "mental" issues like ADHD and autism. Before the '20s, diabetes wasn't chronic--it was just fatal. Now ppl survive it, so it can be called a chronic disease.

Update your post quantum crypto timelines please.

this is huge, a major weaponization of federal power, a threat to all of higher ed.

🧪⚛️ This NY Times feature lets you see how each piece of NSF's funding has been reduced this year relative to the last decade. Note: this FY, the actual agency budget has not been cut like this. They are just not spending appropriated agency funds! www.nytimes.com/interactive/...?

This is just a partial glimpse of the destruction of American science by Trump and the GOP.

Down with the suits! Keep quantum casual!

“More Everything Forever” by @adambecker.bsky.social highly recommended. If they engage this is quite a shot at the rationalist transhumanist utopians, I’m looking forward to their brains melting a bit.

Today I learned that the composer David Cope has died. He was the inventor of "Experiments in Musical Intelligence" (EMI), & a visionary pioneer in computer-generated music. I wrote about his work in my 2019 AI book -- I posted some excerpts from it in my blog: aiguide.substack.com/p/david-cope...

Industry has been slow to come out against Trump's attack on science. Here's a call to action. "The entire academic research enterprise is stalling, not because the ideas aren’t there, but because the support has vanished. What was once America’s steady innovation engine is now sputtering under […]

A strictly conclave cardinal ordering

One of grants frozen at Cornell: $6.7M (4 yrs) to develop heart pumps for babies born w/ heart defects. It took decades of work to get to point of prepping device for in-human clinical trials. No private company could do this. The cruelty of the Trump administration is heartbreaking. So to speak.

Does quantum computing in the US, a golden bipartisan child, have a special role to stand up to the dismantling of US science?

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.

New AIP report discusses impact of funding cuts in physics & astro depts: “No one can be productive in a climate like this—it is the end of the US scientific and technical dominance in the world—we will not recover from this in a decade...”. ⚛️🔭 physics.aps.org/articles/v18...

Months ago, Greg K-M told me something amazing: the QFT is approximated by a 1D-local circuit! Well.. not quite. I realized that'd make the Draper adder local, so carries couldn't possibly work. Greg and others then proved the local circuit works in most relevant cases: arxiv.org/abs/2505.00701

Exponentials fear Combinatorials.

A: look at this graph of exponential growth in the power of AI. AGI just around the corner! B: how do you define intelligence? A: well that’s complex there are a ton of different things you need to consider… B: so what’s the axis on your graph?
