Solid wide shot of Kermit’s commencement speech at UMD.

regional and branch campuses of this type were often founded out of an idealistic movement around college access, and it pains me to see that Great Society dream fading.

Love Canada’s telecom duopoly! Works great, never any problems. Who needs competition anyways???

Did you miss Tong Lam's CBC-JHI Annual Lecture? Here's your chance to watch it. He talked about Cold War China’s nuclear weapons development restricted zones and why they became fertile ground for love stories. Tong is one of our 2024-25 Faculty Research Fellows. youtu.be/Z9qoC1D43eI

Shout out to the student referencing specific PopTingz tweets in my course evals for this semester.

the neatest analogy isn't to technology, it's to prion disease: it displaces a functional form with a nonfunctional and malformed variant that serves no purpose and ultimately sickens the body it inhabits

Facebook tracked when adolescent girls deleted selfies so it can serve a beauty ad to them at that moment. 😳

LIlia Topouzova's new book! And her recent interview with New Books Networks!! Grab both!!!

GodDAMN this ruling against Apple in the Epic lawsuit is brutal. This is a judge who is outright furious at a company and it is not going well for them. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

In his February 26 letter saying, "I’m confident that free markets and personal liberties are right for America," Jeff Bezos, the billionaire owner of the Washington Post and Amazon, also claimed, "freedom is ethical" because "it minimizes coercion."

I always think about this one moussaka place in Madison that had absolutely no business being as satisfying as it was.

Poor guy. The strain of cruelly destroying dozens of important, life-saving agencies/programs that make our society healthier, smarter, and more resilient, with no clear legal authorization, no transparency, no attempt to understand what agencies do, and no justification must be a lot to bear.

I had been hearing about this sotto voce for awhile but interesting to see it confirmed: applications to computer science and IT programsin Ontario are off 27% from last year.

I'm so thrilled to announce a new publication from our group. "In such scenarios, the experience of failure takes on its own distinct contours. And of course, not all failures are created equal, nor are they experienced equitably." www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

We at the Beaverton promise that, had we been afforded the same absurdly preferential treatment as Rebel News, we would have shut down the post-debate scrums TWICE as quickly and disgracefully.

The “I mean it obviously sucks” is what gets me. As though this is the equivalent minor frustration of a restaurant getting your Uber Eats order wrong. No big deal, just gotta demand to speak to the manager! 🧠 🐛

No trans people were consulted on this decision that only affects trans people. In fact trans people were actively barred from consulting on this decision that only affects trans people. But transphobic bigots? Oh they got consulted for days. Fucking grim. I'm absolutely fuming.

Solidarity with all trans sisters (and brothers) today

Critics of surveillance, datafication and AI are often accused of being alarmist and even hysterical in pointing out the potential for supposedly benign systems to be used in malign and expansive ways. But we’re seeing now how dangerous it was for those critiques to be dismissed.

And they’re absolutely right to do so. These students would have zero legal protections from state violence and American universities have proven themselves more than willing to throw their own students to the wolves.

Biggest commitment to a 3 second joke I've ever seen

And higher taxes.

So immeasurably dumb. One of the key lessons of the early pandemic was just how critical the labour these workers do really is.

What kind of brain problem makes you think that on the whole, Vietnam has fucked over the United States

Everything sucks, but this is pretty awesome. lclshome.org/rick-steves-...

I must not be the first person to bring this up But there has never been a more vindicated guy

Here is the top comment on this article: “You are advising responsible honest people who have worked hard, saved all their lives… to scale down their retirement dreams because a one person has decided to destroy the US economy. Why not write an article about how to get rid of the real problem?”
