Burt's Wasps

Beers taste better if you drink them sitting on stairs. They don’t want you to know this

"For the child born this summer in Texas, whose parents receive no documents, whose name never appears in any system, and who grows up asking why she can’t go on field trips, apply for scholarships, or open a bank account, the consequences are not legal theory. They are her life."

Sen. Glob Dipwad of Racismville, AL gets to say people who live in cities are vermin but if you make a joke about how much these people suck and make everything around them suck someone inevitably posts that stupid cornbread & artisanal pizza meme in your replies. life's not fair like that sometimes

it is no exaggeration at all to say that these are people who would rather destroy the state's flagship public university than education a diverse cross-section of the commonwealth's students

Zohran Mamdani: Some New Yorkers Say They Can Imagine Him With A Big Cape And Devil Horns

the second comment here *is* the problem with LLMs and basic image generators becoming conflated with all AI

For a kid born today—how the hell do they run for president in 49 years or prove their eligibility to holdoffice if there are 50 different definitions of who holds U.S. citizenship? This is so dumb.

just listened to Kirsten Gillibrand imply that Zohran wants to murder all Jews and destroy Israel. like an order of magnitude more racist than anything George W. Bush ever said about Muslims

Yes, this is bad for porn. But porn famously has no clear legal definition. As such: This is a direct path to censoring anything the GOP wants to censor and can argue is “adult” - info on birth control, queer identity, anything about trans people or gender diversity or safe sex or HIV or drag or

They're just televising the construction of concentration camps like it's a good thing. This is unimaginably dark.

States' rights has always meant "we will do what we want in our states, and you will do what we want in your states."

looking forward to some parents suing to demand segregated schools because integration violates their religious beliefs

it's important to understand that they want to threaten the very essence of public education. the conservative plan - the plot to enslave america - requires them to destroy public education and replace it with private academies for the rich, religious instruction and prison-like schools for the rest

probably time to beg, borrow, or steal your way out of red states before you're working as an indentured servant for your local ford dealer

Taken as a whole, the Supreme Court has decided we should live in a smaller, crueler country where neighbors should be pitted against each other more frequently.

all of the Supreme Court’s jurisprudence about executive power - all of it - can be replaced with a simple flow chart. is the president a Republican? if so it’s ok. if not, it’s presumptively not ok.

Consider what Barrett is saying here: if the Executive breaks the law, our "remedy" is to sit around and twiddle our thumbs because no one is allowed to do anything about it.

Huge win for the Trump administration will remake a lot of things, and a farcical turnaround from how SCOTUS allowed courts to proceed under Biden.

Birthright ctizienship is good and essential and we're going to need a second Reconstruction to undo the combined damage of the Roberts Court and the second Trump administration.

there was a time when some small tweaks to how justices were nominated and things like ditching the filibuster and admitting DC as a state were all that was needed to shore up our system of government. but both parties have allowed the rot to fester and now we need to re-do the foundations

The next Democratic president won't have his agenda thwarted by district court injunctions, instead the Supreme Court will rapidly strike it down even though it takes its sweet time on cases like Trump v. U.S. to ensure his J6 trial would be pushed to after the election.

Getting real mad about actions not taken in January 2021 again

Unless something dramatic happens in the interim, a birth certificate will no longer be sufficient to prove the citizenship of any child born in much of the United States after July 27.

i agree but instead the head of the dscc is engaging in islamophobic attacks herself while declining to endorse him

I listened to this. She said “jihad” like twelve times. No one is talking about jihad lol. She kept talking about what it takes to govern a diverse city like NYC (as if she had a clue). What about the Muslim population of the city, which is roughly as large as the Jewish population?

This is an absolute fucking nightmare

Deporting children of military veterans because they were born on an overseas military base. This man has no citizenship now.

probation????????

A lot of sloppy thinking is the result of treating "immigration" as a single issue. In reality, it involves a lot of issues, some of which (esp. border enforcement) are good for Trump but some (esp. deporting ordinary law-abiding workers with community roots, often violently) are very much not

the way calling for the deportation of any visible non-white person is rapidly becoming normalized is a huge cause for concern.

there’s no point in catastrophizing about a decision we haven’t even gotten yet, but it really cannot be overstated enough just how bad the worst case scenario is with birthright citizenship is. like “any mere semblance of self-governance is over” is one of the plausible outcomes

one of the projects of the court is to expand the ability of states to pursue reactionary ends and constrain the ability of the federal government to set minimum standards *or* of democratic-led states to expand upon existing rights

saving all of these for the final day seems like a bad sign

🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court ALLOWS states to defund Planned Parenthood, holding that Medicaid does not give patients a right to obtain care from its providers. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

very easy to see what is happening. trump will run for a third term, he’ll try to bring the dispute to federal courts, where his election denying judges will rewrite the 22nd amendment to mean it only refers to “consecutive” terms.

AI in the wild? This tray tissue I was given at a restaurant is full of errors and hallucinations…!

Laura Loomer -- who has convinced Trump to fire multiple high level WH officials -- as calling on the administration to have Mamdani arrested and charged with terrorist affiliations to the Muslim Brotherhood (which he does not have.)

just glancing at this and it actually is shocking that there is a very visible uptick during human history in a chart that goes back 485 MILLION YEARS
