Rewatched HOWARDS END (1992), a superb exploration of class/gender privilege and hypocrisy featuring an ensemble cast that can do no wrong. Another fine Merchant-Ivory adaptation of an E.M. Forster novel, which of course means it’s gorgeously filmed. #FilmSky #MovieSky

#PlanetDisco 9/30 MacArthur Park has been recorded by numerous artists since Richard Harris’ original release in 1968. For me, Donna Summer’s 1978 disco version is best of all. MacArthur Park youtu.be/0lPYUGTAVmA?...

6/30 #PlanetDisco Groundbreaking producer-composer Giorgio Moroder’s theme to the film Midnight Express finds the man who often collaborated with Donna Summer in top form with this dance-floor instrumental. This is the single edit. There’s also a great long version. Chase youtu.be/F_25HQ_qqwI?...

Just watched ABANDONED (1949), a well-done #noir about a black market baby-adoption ring. A woman goes to L.A. to discover her sister was killed after having a baby. What happened? And where is the child? Good acting, plenty of suspense. #NoirAlley #FilmNoir #FilmSky #MovieSky

Sunday film: CASQUE D’OR (French, 1952), finds director Jacques Becker in top form. It’s a story, lushly set around 1900, of doomed love involving a kept woman who abandons the criminal underworld for an unassuming carpenter. Superb acting, esp. Simone Signoret. Amazing ending. #FilmSky #MovieSky
