Too many of the people cluelessly calling for an immediate "General Strike" can't even seem to hold themselves to boycotting Target and Chick-Fil-A. Come on, now. Organize and drive those company's stocks down, traffic down, profits down, and THEN we can talk about a more "General" strike. Yeesh.

GO GET YOUR FUCKING PASSPORTS

like I know we all know it but Christ when you say it out loud

i just find this so bizarre. searching through texts and doing the reading for myself is how i actually think through ideas! trying to put together a sentence is how i figure out what i actually want to say!

In libraries, we call this vocational awe. The idea that if you are invested in your calling, you should accept low wages/inhumane conditions is a nasty little trick of capitalism. I’m an author, I’m hungry, I care deeply about my work, AND I deserve to be paid for it.

The "Starving artist" trope was started by ppl who didn't wanna pay artists (writers, painters, musicians, etc) & wanted it to seem a good thing. Artists suffering for art, starving artists, doing it for love only/shunning money - All myth turned folklore as reason to NOT FUCKING PAY US OUR DUE.

The Alt National Park Service account is deeply suspicious and I’m glad someone is digging into it.

if i can be y’all’s dad for a second: one of the most important things I’ve learned is that acquiring a skill is literally uncomfortable that awful moment where you feel confused and stupid and embarrassed? it means you’re about to learn something. and it’s *mandatory* if you want to get better

Thing is, Brad Lander was fucking right to be physically preventing ICE from kidnapping someone, regardless of what piece of paper they may or may not say they need or do not need. Let’s all be clear on this, at least.

Shocking to outsiders? Authors' work finances dozens of full time jobs, from publishers to agents to book printers to booksellers, yet very few authors make enough from their own books to write full time and either have other jobs or spouses who earn more. I find this extremely fucked up.

anyone who's gonna go "it sucks but you gotta win over people first, slowly build the case for rights" for trans people should tell me, without looking it up, when they think interracial marriage reached majority approval in america

I wish more people understood that destruction of education and research is not done by parts. When you attack any one piece, you are attacking the entire system. Nobody, and I mean absolutely no one, is protected.

“It should be illegal for you to be mean to me and legal for me to kill you” is basically the Republican platform.

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

The claims that McIver, Padilla, and Lander were committing assault should make you question every other time LEOs claim assault or resisting arrest, if you weren’t already.

I wrote about how the 2020 protests hurt Trump politically. I also wrote about how counternarratives about left-wing violence are just spin — and wildly at odds with the reality of extremist violence. Gift link: wapo.st/3SOEv6e

we've been shouting about this since gamergate btw

All my personal information was leaked by my prev. employer (which won’t suffer any consequences), so now I pay about $250/year to a private company to get my info & my kids’ scraped off of data broker sites It would be cool to have a Congress that gave a shit and regulated things like that

And also no matter who you are, you just don't KNOW if and when you will be impacted. Food in particular is an example of this. Between ICE farm raids and tariff uncertainty, there's really no telling what food prices will be month to month or if certain foods will even be available.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Almost all of the bugs and problems and breakage in the software you use is known to the engineers, we just aren't allowed to fix it. Gotta ship new features.

If you are too young to remember the Iraq War, you'll hear "no one protested" and "no one knew they were lying." Millions of people knew they were lying and protested. The press not only did not want a record of mass dissent; they did not want a record of mass knowledge of lies.

just in case the millions of Americans who showed up to protest this weekend didn't clue Dems in and while I'd like to see more people doing the right thing because it's the right thing, there's also the Newsom path: you fight back because it's good for your own personal ambitions

I wish more people understood that AI-assisted “search” is often this. Sure, here’s some papers to cite on this topic. … I very apologize, they are not real papers

"Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) on Monday filed a joint resolution to Congress to “direct the removal” of the U.S. armed forces from any involvement in Israel’s war on Iran, and to prevent a unilateral decision by President Donald Trump to enter the war." good. every democrat should back him.

We should've made a bigger national crisis of someone breaking into Nancy Pelosi's home & trying to kill her husband. But then, we should've made a bigger national crisis about hundreds of someones breaking into the Capitol & trying to steal an election. But then, we should've done lots of things.

Maybe Senator Padilla can help his colleagues understand

Of course they will, because it benefits their owners to do so. How do we fix the media problem?

ON TOP of the ethical reasons to not use AI, it's also 1) bad at what it does 2) literally makes you stupider 3) has HUGE environmental costs: every search is equivalent to pouring out an entire bottle of water. It's not worth it to generate a cutesy emoji or have it write an error-riddled draft.

can’t believe this still needs to be said, but: stop following altNPS. none of them work for the NPS and they exist to do Qanon numbers station crap and sell merch. it’s annoying for a lot of us that are actually NPS. thanks

Discworld QOTD, from Snuff “Cheery was aware that Commander Vimes didn't like the phrase 'The innocent have nothing to fear', believing the innocent had everything to fear, mostly from the guilty but in the longer term even more from those who say things like 'The innocent have nothing to fear'.”

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.

The right has been on a campaign of violent political terror for decades, what was remarkable about the murder of the United Health CEO was that the political violence broke containment from their ideological uses. Abortion clinic bombings. Oklahoma City. Atlanta Olympic Park. Sikh temple shooting.

genuinely this is the exact right energy

It’s going to be a long battle, so you want to stay as healthy as you can for as long as you can. Stay in the fight. Protect yourself. Protect others. Mask up. #CovidIsNotOver #NoKings

Say it for the back row: THEY DON’T THINK

there are NO KINGS in America and the streets are made of cheese

To me, casually mentioning that you use chatGPT is like casually mentioning that you had Chick-fil-A for lunch or shop at Hobby Lobby- I will just low key mentally dismiss anything you have to say forever.

This is Stephen Miller's lifelong dream and they caved on it after a week of pushback from normal people, never believe you are powerless www.nytimes.com/2025/06/13/u...

It's vital to emphasize that the GOP has been calling for violence against their political opponents for more than a decade now, led by Trump. The violence keeps escalating, and they keep doing it because they're getting results.

Jesus. The juxtaposition of these two posts back to back is just...

"we cannot report on the actual videos that exist of this event and must instead rely on the self-serving propaganda of a bunch of professional liars" is deeply pathetic behavior, why even bother pretending to do the job at this point just print the press releases, it'd be less craven

this is a good wake up call for elected Dems to realize what’s happening and what’s going to happen not generally, not in the abstract, but to them personally shut it all down and start acting like you’re in immediate danger, because you are
