“While his win was an upset, the appeal of Mamdami’s fresh optimism should not be surprising after years and years of cynical, self-serving politicians who fail to grasp the anti-corporate fury among many Democratic voters.” www.americaamerica.news/p/is-zohran-...

Report from my @foodcoop.bsky.social shift: —The woman working next to me had been bitten by a rat in Gowanus last night. —Another woman bought 25 pounds of garlic to roast for her daughter’s wedding. She meant to buy organic, but when she learned it wasn’t, considered, then said, “I’ll reiki it.”

We need a new generation of leaders who are the voices of democracy, freedom, social justice, & the rule of law.  A new generation that gives meaning to the “we” in “we the people.” Instead of fretting over Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Party should embrace him as the future.

SCOTUS, by Justice Alito, holds that it violates the religious exercise of parents for public schools to have LGBTQ+-inclusive storybooks without allowing parents to opt-out their children from seeing them. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

The Supreme Court ruled that states can require porn sites to verify visitors’ ages in order to prevent access by minors

🚨BREAKING: Supreme Court ends term without a decision in Louisiana redistricting case. It will be re-argued next term.

If Jeff Bezos can afford to rent Venice for a $50 million wedding, he can afford to pay his fair share in taxes.

Smart move, and not surprising; the litigators surely knew this was an option and had the amended complaint ready to go.

Very minor complaint in the grand scheme of things, but when folks reform SCOTUS, as they need to, it should also insist on a schedule for when and which opinions will be delivered and when, and space them reasonably, so that journalists can give them proper attention and end end-of-term dumps

Melania Trump was not a U.S. citizen when her child, Barron Trump, was born on March 20, 2006. She officially became a U.S. citizen on July 28, 2006, several months later.

The purging of all black and women authors from the War College library, while controversial, has cleared shelf space for some notably excellent literature, such as Kash Patel’s children’s series about good citizenship. — Tonight on The Lead with Jake Tapper

This is what I was afraid of. Think of the impact of removing the court’s ability to issue nationwide injunctions. The oligarchs on the Supreme Court just gutted the balance of powers.

ICE is now changing tactics and arresting people who have been granted asylum hearings.   This is both a violation of US & international law that demands immediate attention from all New York elected officials & underscores the urgent need for legal service providers to be at all of these cases.

Term limits for Supreme Court justices would put an end to strategically timed retirements, which fuel the perception that justices decide cases based on personal views rather than the law.

Pack the Court. If we are serious about the defense of these rights, we pack the Court. Simple as that. They pack it back, we pack it again. We do it until we reach consensus on long-term reforms to the judiciary. I don't know what it's going to take for people to get it.

Not Good. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/u...

Perfect: Trump agreeing with the idea of unleashing law enforcement on judges right when the judiciary just capitulated to him bigly. I don't know why this doesn't penetrate with the robed sages but he simply pockets every grant of unchecked power and is only emboldened to pursue more abuses

“I have no doubt that, if judges must allow the Executive to act unlawfully in some circumstances, as the Court concludes today, executive lawlessness will flourish..." @pemalevy.bsky.social unpacks KBJ's dire warning to the nation following today's Supreme Court rulings:

Global vaccination work has nearly halved the global infant-mortality rate and saved more than 150 million lives. Vaccine skepticism poses a deadly threat to this progress.

34 young women went missing in Washington DC in 24 hours, and it isn’t making a blip on the MSM. I let you guess why.

"The rule of law is not a given in this Nation, nor any other. It is a precept of our democracy that will endure only if those brave enough in every branch fight for its survival. Today, the Court abdicates its vital role in that effort." —Justice Sotomayor
