My column: During construction half of the lanes at Portage and Main were closed. After a few weeks, congestion dissipated and traffic ran normally. A lesson that might allow us to reduce the width of the intersection and add new public space in the future. www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/anal...

When you turn on a light only to discover a rattlesnake, turning off the light doesn't make the snake disappear. It just means you can no longer see the snake. Feels like that's what's happening with all the weather and climate monitoring tools that we're losing, with SSMIS as the latest casualty.

"Drivers do not seem to understand what (1.5 meter) that is." Clearly with the Manitoba Government looking at only a 1 meter passing distance does not "understand" real safety. At a minimum we need 1.5 meters when speeds exceed 50 kph.
